Sorry newyorkish..... but how people get work in NY is a secret nobody knows and everyone from NY never tells.
Every other god forsaken state in this Union shares contacts and gets people jobs... but nooooooooooo not NYC...sorry (end rant)

I believe your original question began with "if you don't have contacts." But contacts are a HUGE part of freelancing, so you gotta start with making them.

do some research man, the work isn't gonna fall out of the sky. Freelance is networking networking networking - you do one smashing job - they will reccommend you to the next, to the next, to the next.
