wow.
if the design world were as strict as you are on yourself - all color, shape, type and layout would be spoken for.

please dont say that you're paying him...?
- fate0
The dude is very adament about his copyright over this.
$250.
- Neuarmy0
dude, just do something else...
- tny0
second that
- fate0
It works perfect for what I want to use it for.

why call yourself a designer if your going to pay others to do your work for you instead of finding some other way to do it. Thats what design is about, solving problems, working within boundries, and making it work.

that's not pride. that's idiocy.
i'm not trying to be mean. the guy is laughing when you hang up the phone with him. guaranteed.
- fate0
Scottizzle, well first off, I told you I created my own stuff from scratch as a byproduct of an animation. It's 3dstroke+starglow, any idiot can do it. So I'm not hiring someone else to do it.
What I DON'T want to happen is for him to ring up the client and say I have done something illegal, then the client either drops the site or sues me, or HE sues me. I am playing it safe.
- fate0
And there are plenty other ways to do it, just none that look so good and tie in with the initial motion sequence that is to become part of the branding. This WORKS design wise, so I'm figuring out how to keep what I've done without offending this cat.
- Scottizzle0
Your playing it stupid. No offense.
- Neuarmy0
but if any "idiot" can do it, how can this guy charge you for it? and if any "idiot" can do it, why would you want to do it too, PLUS pay $250!?
- Neuarmy0
i hope you don't think i'm getting on your shit abou this, i just don't understand, and i think there is a better solution...
i hope im not offending you fate, you know i love you :)
- fate0
He did it first, and if the client was too hear some bullshit about how I'm infringing whatever copyright he thinks he holds, then I am fucked.
Second off, it looks good, at least in my opinion. I've tried variation in shape and such, but those crescents tie very well into my design while breaking up the geometric, bland, and simple design I have going, providing a good balance of eye-candy and minimalism.
- fate0
Neuarmy, no I'm cool with you expressing opinions and stuff. I respect you and your work. Scottizzle didn't make me very happy when he acted like I was paying the guy to make it for me because I was incapable though.
- blaw0
it seems like the dude is trying to extort $250 out of you. screw him.
seriously, just come up with something new. you'll be happier with that in the end.

ask a judge or a lawyer .. it's really not a matter of opinion.
- fate0
Who would be a good legal source of Intellectual Property advice? I wonder if there's anyone local...
- _salisae_0
let your fingers do the walking
or, perhaps the graphic artist manual guide thingy would have some info on it
best of luck, fate. i know you'll do the right thing.

I think its just some white blue lines with some blur. Everybody copies each other all the time. You're taking some kind of personal pride thing too far. I think I've seen that look 100 times before and that other company is not the first.
