Oddly enough, even the kids at Ultrashock don't think I should pay him to keep him from feeling "infringed" upon or whatever. Like I said, I'm deadset on the effect but I don't want the client getting a call from this dude.

What was he saying about your ass?.
- tny0
hahahhaa, well crafted
- Neuarmy0
dude, you're an ass proffessional! or are they just proffessional asses...
lol
i don't see an issue with the whole thing...

I think its just some white blue lines with some blur. Everybody copies each other all the time. You're taking some kind of personal pride thing too far. I think I've seen that look 100 times before and that other company is not the first.

Tell that to the kids at Ultrashock. They're rabid.

well I pointed out to the dude that Even on the Trapcode site there are the same combinations of 3dstroke+starglow (see the 3dstroke sample movies).
I dunno, I carry a lot of pride in my work, and I hold a lot of value in what the design community thinks. If it's going too far, then I won't do it. The AV guy obviously doesn't want me to do it. He feels that he did it first so he has copyrights of that effect. I think at worst I'd only be legitimately attacked for being unoriginal, not illegal, but I don't want slapped with either problem.

bk_shankz, what other sites have you seen that effect on?
- Neuarmy0
yea man, if you don't feel good about it, don't do it. let it motivate you to do something that's even more kickass...

Actually, I'm workin something out with the dude so he's happy and I'm happy. Just gonna cost me a pretty penny.

gayest thread evar

i'm telling you, you and whoever AV is should watch the video id for SBC (when they introduce the blue SBC logo at the end)
the little blue whisps look very, very much alike.
but, i don't think your's looks anything like the AV site. they are very different, and are used differently as well.
it's not all that original anyway, i'm surprised they would even try to act as if they have some sort of ownership over the idea of blue whispies!

hey evan
didn't read all the posts but the combination ofd the trapcode effects shouldn't cause you any trouble...
i did the same thing here...

I kinda agree with nick on this one ;) why would you pay him $250 for doing an adobe photoshop filter effect??? he dosn't own the rights to a filter effect. Thats like me doing an emboss effect and saying everytime you use it you have to pay me.
- fate0
Most likely I will talk the price down, pay him like $50 so he doesn't go whine to the client, then I'm happy, he's happy, client's happy.
- mevsthem0
fate don't do it! if you do i will be forced to call this the dumbest move in graphic design history.
Dosn't X-Man have that effect in there movie. who cares, its a photoshop filter effect thats like charging anyone who does a lens flare.....

wow.
if the design world were as strict as you are on yourself - all color, shape, type and layout would be spoken for.
- fate0
any other opinions on this?
- Neuarmy0
please dont say that you're paying him...?
- fate0
The dude is very adament about his copyright over this.
$250.
