Are these bright shiney things
...too close to the graphics on
http://www.advertisingvisual.com…
...either ethically or legally?
- ad10
no. cracks in doors. eclipses. etc. carry on i reckon.

They were made from scratch and actually the result of a similar but different method for an animation.
3dstroke+starglow. Just someone pointed out that it was very similar to AV and I might get in trouble.

Roll with it dude. It's legally sound...

any other opinions on this?
- Rand0
not too close

Advisual looks godawful in general.
Nothing similar there. Carry on, marry christmas and all that.

not too sure about the AV logo... and the menu/nav.
the font there seems to come out of nothing and the menu items could be a tadbit smaller.. or the overall layout a bit bigger..
- gabe0
reminds me of SBC logo animation. or maybe it's CBC? can't remember now...

I'm not too keen on the AV site either. It did won an FWA award.
But I DO like my little whisps of light and I do not want to offend anyone if I choose to use them.
- DutchBoy0
but do ask yourself fate. are you using them just because you like the effect for the sake of it or does it follow a concept or relate to the content etc?
- Spix0
not that much alike.
- fate0
well it's a very superficial affection I have for them Dutchboy. I admit it, I love eye-candy. BUT it actually ties into a motion piece I have that introduces the logo/brand. It's a similar sort of thing, so in that regard it would tie in.

Well the AV guys disagree...

About this issue, I've got to tell you that yes, it's a conflict because you are using for the same purpose , the same graphics as in our website.
I suggest you that you try to make something different, because its the "same" effect for those lines and its the same wave of lines .
You ass a professional , could make something different, come on , bring something new ! . Don't start this conflict using the same kind
of graphics, the same way that we've just created.
- mennik0
What was he saying about your ass?.
- tny0
hahahhaa, well crafted
- Neuarmy0
dude, you're an ass proffessional! or are they just proffessional asses...
lol
i don't see an issue with the whole thing...
- fate0
well I pointed out to the dude that Even on the Trapcode site there are the same combinations of 3dstroke+starglow (see the 3dstroke sample movies).
I dunno, I carry a lot of pride in my work, and I hold a lot of value in what the design community thinks. If it's going too far, then I won't do it. The AV guy obviously doesn't want me to do it. He feels that he did it first so he has copyrights of that effect. I think at worst I'd only be legitimately attacked for being unoriginal, not illegal, but I don't want slapped with either problem.
- Neuarmy0
yea man, if you don't feel good about it, don't do it. let it motivate you to do something that's even more kickass...

Actually, I'm workin something out with the dude so he's happy and I'm happy. Just gonna cost me a pretty penny.
