tommy, the need of a 3th major repair on it gives you the right for a new one..

swweeet... my goal right now is to get a new one, I deserve at least that for all the trouble of taking it down there and being without it for as long as I have. The guy said that the keyboard doesn't count (even though its been replaced twice). So I have one under my belt with the electrical malfunction.
man this thing is seriously possessed...I just looked over at it while I was talking shit about it and the screen was black except I could barely see a window open...so I tap spacebar a couple times...nothing...touch the power button once...nothing...plug it into the AC adapter...bling screen lights up and it still has 83% battery life...wtf
I think I will now start a diary...I'm going to take that in with me next time.

holyshit..
be careful, it might burn down your house too...

do you have the big applecare package on it btw? if so, just empty a cokecan in it.. that will get you a new one for sure.
- iDp0
hehe no I bought it last March, but I am picking up the applecare for this pos this week when I'm in LA. My old job was at MacMall so my buddy can get a slight discount on it.
but the coke can idea sounds like a good one...does it really cover that?
- iDp0
ahhhh yes so I HATE THIS FUCKING POWERBOOK...I swear this thing is a fucking nightmare. I'm not even going to write about what happened again...if you're even interested I decided to upload a diary for this POS.

if you have applecare drop it on the fucking concrete and make sure your drop it hard as hell - then send it in.
new computer.
- iDp0
shit man I read the whole post...that sucks! Let me know how everything works out for you. Looks like if I want a new machine will need to start bugging the shit out of them.
- iDp0
shwax I still need to buy applecare, I bought it in March of 2004 so I still have a couple months. I also lost my job in Nov so I'm waiting to start making some cash before I drop 300 on the applecare. I honestly don't think I could drop it on the concrete though, would break my heart.

iDP, i have 2 good friends who use powerbooks and both have had problems with the screen, keyboard, mousepad, etc.
one of my friends kept having problems with her mousepad falling out. apple finally replaced her powerbook for free.

You won't find 1 faultless product in a whole wide world...
I had problems with my Powerbook but I still love it to bits. It was a faulty HDD that would boot only when the temperature outside would be 79.3F precisely (and no rain, of course) :-))). After spending 3 hours with Apple on the phone and not getting anywhere, they said that I should take it to the nearest Apple Centre blah blah blah. At that point, I asked to speak to their supervisor. I explained him the problem and finished with this:
"I did not buy an Apple to have hardware problems. I did not pay in excess of £1,100 to have Windows grade issues. I want you to come and pick it up. I also want the problem to be sorted in no more than 3 weeks because I will be attending a conference that requires a laptop."
You have to be firm and say exactly what you want. They don't care about moaners and girls that scream and threat. That's complete bollocks. Just tell them how long you had your problem for and how soon before you want it back - fixed, of course (or replaced - even better). NEVER go back to the retailer because they can't do much about faulty hardware. They can attempt to fix it, but if it doesn't work, it will be shipped to Apple. If even Apple can't fix it, they will replace it. That's the way things go.
Oh yes, do you know what happened in my case? Next morning this UPS guy comes with a box and tells me that he will come later to pick up the faulty equipment. From the time he picked it up (he came as promised), it was 24h before I got it back. Not a problem since ;-). I even called Apple to thank them for a very good service ;-).
What if it doesn't work out? Well, I am not accustomed to the US legal system, but legal action is the last thing that any company wants. If you do that, you will open a can of worms that noone wants to even think about. People don't realize how serious legal action is and how much it can dent a company's reputation. If you can prove that their faulty hardware made you lose money (not being able to continue your work type) they will be obliged by law to re-imburse your losses.
Get back to Apple and tell me how it works out ;-). REMEMBER: don't moan, threat, shout, be rude etc. The world is not lead by cavemen but by gentlemen ;-).

thanks for the advise gerhard. I'll remember that when I call to tell them what is up.
rasp I might have to do something like that.
I'm going to pick the stupid thing up in a few hours, I really hope that it just doesn't work when I get there. Would help my story out when I call Apple.
