Ok so tomorrow I think I'm finally going to go into the Apple store and ask for a replacement. I've had this PB for 8 Months now and so far the keyboard has been replaced twice (total of 2 weeks of downtime). The laptop stopped recognizing the battery even though the battery was fully charged (another 2 weeks of downtime).
Now the keyboard is still jacked (some of the buttons stick and its slightly lifting up on one corner). Started having kernal panics three weeks ago, computer would just lock up and then on restart I get a grey screen that tells me to restart...so I restart and it does the same thing...so I leave it for a few days and it works fine for a while, then I go through the same problems. So the 'genius' tells me I need to reinstall the OS...which I just did and then while it was running the updates it crashed and now it will boot up and freeze everytime. I can boot into safe mode but it wont let me use the Airport card (so I could try and redownload the updates). I'm guessing it wont boot normally because didn't finish installing.
I hardly use this thing and for it to have this many problems is insane. Has anyone else been able to get Apple to cough up a replacement? Any suggestions?

sound like you got yerself a nice doorstop!
dude... I say turn it into some really cool yard art. Maybe plant it in the ground a little bit w/the top open... and place a statue of the virgin mary in front of it... shrine that shit!!
orrrrr... hmmm - chew toy for the pooch? Or maybe you could take off all the keys and glue magnets to the bottoms of them and put them on the fridge.
... just some thoughts...
... or you could just take it back and demand a replacement.
btw - how's the mighty G5 running?... and why aren't you logged in to aol?
- shutdown0
i bet if you take it to a store it will work perfectly when trying to explain it's faults
- MXS0
Damn... which version of powerbook is it?
- moth0
Ahem. Buy a PC.
- iDp0
hehe abizzyman...good suggestions!! The G5 is doing well...I'm really enjoying it. It's the G5's lil brother that I'm pissed at.
Its a G4 PB...bought it last March.
My other idea was this:
Throw the PB through the window of the Apple store. I'll attach a note that says "Switch? I loved my Window(s), I'll bet you liked yours too."

haha!
great idea!

You got a Lemon. Is just all most impossible to get a new computer from them.
They will just replace part with more parts and on and on and on.
Good Luck.

To moth,
Yeah, cause PCs never break.

anyone else have any luck with Apple?? Know of anyone??
I'm going to LA this week so I'm planning on telling them that I had two big presentations I was supposed to give and now I could possibly lose them...
- iDp0
see no one else has problems like these with their powerbooks...so no one knows how to properly tell them to 'take this peice of shit back and give me a new one'.

Go over to http://www.macrumors.com
There are loads of people with help and advise for you, and they have had the same problems as you.

there are lemons for anything that is manufactured. shpoop happens. demand a replacement. if they dont, tell them you will be going straight to the better business bureau.
apple is good about that shit usually though
- jox0
No they're not
In my experience, whenever something spooky happens with their shit, they're totally sucky about it. "Wow, sir. Your Airport doesn't work, huh? Very well, maybe there's something wrong about your wall you've put it on. Or did you check your other cables? Maybe they're not Apple certified? Oh, wait - you had SALAD for lunch today? I'm sorry, that puts me in a weird position sir. I can't help you. The Airport manual strongly suggest that you do-not-eat salad. Thanks for you call, goodbye."
- iDp0
yeah so wouldnt you know it...
I go in all irate style...open the PB and hit the power button...and everything works fine...fucking posessed computer.
- gabriel20
you must be doing something wrong because macs NEVER have problems

its hard to get a replacement, i had hd problems a few weeks ago... my machine is only 2 months old...
call apple customer relations, and flip out.. see if it gets you anywhere. replacements are all dealt with by apple.

my powerbook has had the following issues.
• Broken screen inverter (screen stopped working after a month)
• Modem died.
those two things have cost me WEEKS due to a dickhead technician at the store where I brought mine... also they replaced my keyboard, to my delight because I complained that it was a little noisy.... so I get it back and half of the keys no longer light up (backlit) !!!
I haven't taken that back to get that resolved yet because I feel that I can't be without it for much longer.
A friend of mine who works at an apple dealer was saying that the techs where he works are legends and he will make sure that they look after me.
I don't think I'll go back to the store where I brought it.

this fucking computer is going to be the death of me...now I'm copying some shit over and it just froze...i just want to be able to use it while I'm in LA next week wtf....seriously when I get back to Vegas I'm going to drop this thing off...and i'm just going to keep taking it back until they just give me a new one.
