I need to get in touch with my great uncle..... he is still alive and he was in normandy I believe...
I also have a lot of stuff from my grandfather...he died before I was born... he was a medic and a cook... I will see what I could dig up....

jevad, dunno if you'd be interested in this, but my mother wrote a (short) book about my grandfather, who was in the dutch resistance and was executed by the nazis in 1944...i have an extra copy i could send you. she dug up a bunch of the remaining resistance fighters in the netherlands and their relatives.
also, on my father's side, i had an uncle who led a panzer battalion in the wehrmacht, but he died a few years back and refused to write anything down because according to him 'history is written by the winners and nobody wants to hear my side anyways'. the guy was amazing though, he was on both fronts, from jersey in the channel to romania.

My grandpa were living in Berlin studying and teaching at art university in berlin where they had 'ghost classes' (secret classes) since artists and intellectual were considered as 'enemies', I am not really sure why but some people found out and gave my grandpa an ultimatum to leave the university before the week was over but he understood that leaving the university wasn't enough. He and his wife escaped the borders with only a small amount of money and a gun. Later also my granpa's brother left berlin and the family left their houses and land for England, Denmark and Sweden.
Grandpa and his wife, who were a professional concert pianist, left Germany for Stockholm, Sweden. Were my grandma came second place in a 'typewriting contest' and my grandpa started to hang out with some jet-set artists then my grandma died when gave birth to my mother. My grandpa later started an art college here in Stockholm. He died in 1986. He would've been 102 years old this year. R.I.P.

my mom was in a concentration camp in indonesia during wwII. She was young but has memories of the guards, etc.
Not sure if that would be helpful?

nice work!
- jevad0
kyle - yes please - any and all accounts.
What I want people to get from this book is an all round feeling of what it was like to live through, be involved with, or be affected by the war.
Did you ever hear back from my work?

My Grandad who was a bit of an amateur historian by all accounts (he died shortly after the war from his injuries), was at Dunkirk and kept a diary and kept all the leaflets etc. that the germans dropped on the soldiers as propoganda (you're surrounded etc.) He also took quite a few photographs.
They are displayed at the imperial war museum in Manchester. I'd recommend it if you are ever that way.

wow thats awesome Ian - next time I'm up that way it's on my 'must do' list....

It's a beautifully designed place. One of the best museums I've ever seen.

Good Luck Jevad, my grandfather fought at Casino in Italy, and his war stories enchanted me as a child before his death 10 years ago. I admire anyone who plays an active role in preserving the memories. nice one.
- jevad0
