wow jevad, that is so cool! i wish i would have asked my grandfather about stories he had from the war before he died. my granma lived through the bombings in london, i should really ask her about that too.
why are you writing this book?

brilliant jevad, good luck. there are some good resources here:

oh wicked link!!
thanks!
I hope to conduct face to face interviews with US veterans here in Colorado, and hopefully via email with veterans back in UK unless I can cajole a friend into helping!
leah - my grandmother on my fathers side survived the London Blitz too - it was her stories, and the stories of my other grandfather who was a marine fighting in the pacific theatre, that spawned my love for history, specifically WWII history.
I graduated Uni with a history degree and was going on to become a war historian when I sort of fell in love with the internets and design.
This is a way for me to get back on track. I was lucky enough to hear the stories first hand from survivors - my kids will not have that luxury.
They are stories that need be told and read.

a bit of motivation (and slightly off track), but i heard something about family history really breaking down after three generations and realized i didn't know too much about my great-grandparents.
so i decided to interview my (and my wife's) grandmothers about their history so i could pass it off to my son. well, i have one done, but TWO grandmother's have since passed away (tough year on grandmothers, 'eh?).
long story longer... i'd recommend against procrastination.
sorry for the sideroad, jevad.

I wouldn't even mention the Vietnam War and WWII in the same sentance tbqh....

keep the history straight here gents. WWII is WWII and nothing else is.

good show, jevad! that's really wonderful that you're taking the bull by the horns.
i'm american (from the rockies, myself) living in london with literary career aspirations. if you want to chat about the possibility of me helping you to conduct interviews, drop me a line. the symmetry could be nice.
good luck!

my grandmother 's story is fascinating to me. she met my grandpa (who was canadian) during the war and they got married, conceived my dad, then my grandmother and my dad went by boat to nova scotia when my dad was one, they took the train to peace river alberta (waaaaaay up north) and she lived there for about 15 years. she had seven kids all together, my grandpa was a drunk, she moved from metropoliton london to butt f*ck no where canada, leaving her family and friends behind. her strength amazes me everyday.

awesome! thanks so much! It's going to be a lot harder to do it from here than it would have been if I had started this back in London as there are much better resources and records in the museums and libraries. Also I knew a lot of veterans back there and don't know any here.
But as soon as I nail down a format (need to decide if I am going to do it by events, battles, theatres, or campaigns...), I will def. be in touch if you'd like to help!
If it gets published all proceeds will be going to veterans groups

jevad - my stepfather was in the Navy during WW2 and his ship was struck by a kamikaze. Wild story. His daughter lives in Colorado (Frisco).
- jevad0
do you keep in touch with him?

ok, no props, let me dig up some more stuff. I thought I remember you saying somethin' about this long ago, but I forget what that was all about. Maybe 1.5 years ago on D-Day or Veterans Day or somethin'.

my grandfather landed the day after d day, and walked from the French coast to Berlin. Michigan is probably out of the way for an interview, and he's not too great with email, but I could give you his address or work something else out. mail me if you're interested.
Good luck with the book.
