Clients suck. Well in the world of design anyway. If you hired an engineer you wouldn't tell him how to do his job right? You would trust his knowledge and experience. should be the same in design.

i do not need to even compare it with the alternative.
why not give them what they want and cheaply finish it off and get your money and lose the client.
don't put to much attention in it anymore.
perhaps you can sell this design to their competition later on. >:)
