resizing vectors

I may be missing something. Why in Illustrator when I resize a vector drawing do I always have to readjust the stroke size or it throws everything off? And why do you see small imperfections at different zoom sizes. For instance, at 800% two shapes come together perfect with no flaws but at 100% I can see a tiny line between them?
Anyone have any tips?

make sure that if you are scaling it you right click and choose the percentage and make sure you click both the object and stroke and patterns area if using that as well.

You have to set a pref in Illy, >
Scale stroke weight. You want that to be checked bro.

in your AI preferences, check "Scale Strokes & Effects"...
:)

what version of Illy

damn you soler. hehehe

if you use the scale tool instead and uncheck the 'scale stroke', it'll keep your stroke size
transforming it with the boudning box will give you a smimilar result as when you resize something in photoshop.. it will scale everything, including your stroke weight, because you're affecting the size, not jsut location of your vector points
how exaclty are your two shapes composed? is there a stroke or are they straight-edged?

Or you can choose >
Object > Path > Outline stroke.
But be sure you're happy w/ the stroke size cos you can't go back.

Stroke Sizes:
Depending on the version of illustrator if you do a Object > Transform there is a selection for "stroke and effects" Otherwise if you use the scale tool and CS there is a selection in the Transform window options for scale and effects.Image size:
It's just how it renders, being vector it's dealing in maths right? and we all learned that there are unresolvable or runon equations like 33.3333+ etc. So sometimes whatever your x and y plus your graphic size results in a unresolvable equation when it comes to the render on your screen. So you get gaps when there shouldn't be gaps, and vice versa. But with that is the power to absolutely define the positioning of your elements using X and Y settings in transform. So that gap you're seeing is there for a reason it's not exact.

double click on the resize button, verify the check box at the button (about effect and path). Sorry if it's not clear but i have the french version.

The version is PC 9.0. The 2 shapes are straight edged. A reflection of the same shape.

every version of AI has those pref options JazX.

Thanks for the tips. I had never really used the X and Y settings in transform. That and using the grid seems to make a huge difference in the accuracy of the shapes. So I guess it's always better to use whole numers in the X and Y settings?

One more thing. Why can't I move the guides around after I drag them into place?
- function820
generally it is.
look at it this way, if its for web, and you do a .5 or .75 or .147182412 x position, when you import it to photoshop (or straight to the web if thats your game) the 1/2 pixels and other decimal pixels will convert to halftones to give the appearance of a half pixel, and usually will make the image appear blurry
