Question. A friend of mine wants to buy a powerbook.
So whats the best place to buy it from?

First off if you can't handle a PC, and you can't protect it, don't use it. you're not smart enough to be using it. A Ferrari won't work if you don't know how to shift.
But the Vaio's are not reliable, too much proprietary software and hardware with flimsy construction. Had 2, hated both.

ive got this :

my powerbook friends drool over it. the lcd screen is completely amazing. if you do visual work, its worth it for that alone.

I think this thread should be renamed to "VAIO Vs HP laptops."
That way it will be a more fair comparison.
or it could also be named:
PB 12' vs PB 15' vs PB 17'But comparing Vaio vs Powerbook its like comparing a flip flop vs a snowboard boot.
No offense to vaio users, dont get me wrong, I love sony, but if you are serious about getting a laptop for professional work, you only have 3 options
12', 15' and 17.:)

PowerBook all the way.

I dont trust pc's anymore, they are only good for gaming (sometimes). I have a 15" powerbook, and that fucker doesnt mess around.

The 17" Vaio has one, if not the, nicest screens out there.
Get the Vaio....can't you see everyone already has a powerbook??
Really, though, you need to look at the apps you'll use. I am thinking of the Sony, too. Max will not run on an Apple, so no contest for me (not to the Apple's I've used were not fun - Dual G4s).
The only draw back is the graphics card. Make sure you look into it (assuming you want the best). Another consideration is http://www.boxxtech.com 's 17 incher. Probably the most powerful laptop made (you can even get RAID configs), but the screen is not nearly as nice as the Sony's.

this thread seems pretty useless. everyone just says, "powerbook rocks!" yet someone has yet to make a case for it.
the lcd on the tr2 viao is actually the most technologically superior one invented yet. there is a whole story behind it at sony's site. no other vaio or laptop in existance has it. now, if i could get that lcd on a powerbook, i probably would buy it.....

superbaka, I made a pretty good fucking case for it. Sony sucks at making laptops. I have experience in this matter. Try wiping the OS and you will be fucked. Try installing some apps and you will Bluescreen like Windows95. They are flimsy, plasticy machines.

well, true you've said more than the other people. still, they've recently removed a ton of their propriatory shit. i had one from 2 years ago and hated it. now i have no problem installing anything, and there are lots of websites devoted specifically to installing linux on vaios..

superbaka, then you may be correct regarding newer models. I cannot say I have the absolute newest vaio. My 2nd is a year old and ready for replacement.

i find i can work faster on a PC... and things just run faster on a pc... but mac is much more relaible...
plus.. the powerbook is supertough... i carry it around in my backpack and skateboard with it..

i like how flash MX 2004 on OSX currupts your files a lot. a lot of the programs we use everyday dont work that well on macs.

I use my powerbook at least 10 hours each day of the work week and on weekends for a few hours. Rarely ever have a problem with the apps, and not once had a problem with Flash on it. If any one else does, I smell pilot error =)
