I'm trying to make my graphics scale, fade, and change positions just like on this audi site:
http://www.audi.com/de/de/neuwag…
But i don't know how to keep the file size under 200kb. The swf on this audi site is only 144kb. I'm guessing they didn't use a timeline to animate it, so how did they program the smooth scaling, movements, and fading without using a typical timeline animation?

myMovie.loadMovie("myJpeg1.jpg", level);
myMovie.scale;
myMovie.fade;
myMovie.changePosition;
############
you'll need to define callback functions for
scale, fade and changePosition;

thanks MX_OnD, but what are callback functions? :P
- MX_OnD0
you serious?
myCallback = function()
{
doSomething;
doSomethingElse;
return somethingPerhaps;
}
- fifty500
huh well i'm very new to flash and i don't know very many actionscript codes. still don't know how to use this callback thing though. guess i need to take a class or something.
- MX_OnD0
you have mail sir.
- fifty500
thanks man...
I guess I should keep looking though cause I need this to be done today... :(

Sorry to jump in, but does anyone know how they do the saturation? have seen it on a few sites now but cant get the same effect using colour object.
Fifty if you find the coding too much tweening shouldnt make much diff to the file size, just optimize yr images well!!
- UndoUndo0
me thinks the AA and AB channels with the colour object will create this affect
- fifty500
Yeah i tried tweening and the animation is only like 5-10 seconds long and it's already over 200kb. i'd like to use as little tweening as possible so i guess actionscripting the images is the best way to do that. the swf must be small enough to load almost immediately, so a 30 second long flash file, at this rate, would take too long to load.
- System-Idle0
doesnt matter how long the tweens are.
big image file size=long download!optimize yr images = small file size
- System-Idle0
that said. Dont use shape tween. Use motion tween
- fifty500
okay so i realized that it doesn't matter how long I extend the tweens for, it doesn't even change the file size if I make the movie clip longer, all that matters is the image compression. So, lesson learned for today.
Next problem: while making the flash movie, it looked fine and good in the preview, but once I published it, it started to render pretty strangely. as you can see in this link, the movie clip got slightly distorted, and it kind of looks (for lack of a better term) "blocky", and it did not look like that while I was creating it...
http://www.mactrade.de/daten/aud…
does anybody know why all of a sudden it started to produce this effect, and how to fix it??
- Spix0
i dont know.
- fifty500
thanks a lot for your intelligent response.

what System-idle said!
also, for the jagged movement of the bitmaps, check the frame rate you're using, higher frame rate will produce moother motion...
shape tween = evil
motion tween = goodcheck the compression of the bitmaps from the library as well and control them individually from there, create report as well so you keep track of what's pumpin up the file size!
- armed_rob0
hey I just need 2 know if an actionscripted animation is SO much smaller (kb) than a motiontweened animation?
- fifty500
hey rob, according to the people here, they'd be exactly the same... i can vouch for that because the file size of my motion-tweened animation does not get any bigger when i go from a 5-frame tween to a 200-frame tween.
all that matters is the compression of your bitmapped images.
of course, i haven't done this a thousand times, nor do i know how to make an actionscripted animation, so I do not have sufficient proof to support my claims.

I was successful at not having the jittery image scaling when I made sure the image was on the center point crosshairs in the stage. This seems to help.
- fifty500
okay, i tried increasing the frame rate and the jittery effect isn't disappearing. it's strange because the entire the time i was working on the file it wasn't doing that until i published it. jpeg quality is at 10, too.
