My boss just asked me if I have ever won a design or art award. I haven’t.
So can anyone provide me with some good resources/advice to get started down the self-gratifying path? (Such as CA awards, or Print awards, others, etc.)

Rule No. 1 - Don't design for awards.
YES - recognition/awards are great, but when you start a project by saying "Hmmmmm, what would the judges of Cannes think about this?" - you will lose site of the project objective.
Tell your boss to give you creative freedom to create award-winning work and see what he says.

"Super Duper Pooper" is the one we give our son when he makes in his lil potty.
Seriously though, the FWA & Bombshock awards make for some excellent exposure. But yes, don't design for awards.

Hmm...I'm a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP). But that's not really an award. And anyone with $100 can join.
I wish I had bothered with wanting an award earlier in my career.

i agree with praktiv... you design for content, a visual delivery that communicates the message in the meaning and design it was meant to be in ... as so created by you.
besides, awards are given out so much left and right, who is to say what is authoritative or not.
but if you need to, go for the design entries of CA, print, how, ID. those are widely known, prestigous.
and yes. i have won some awards. but that has got me nowhere.
