Anyone here rides?....
I"m looking to get a good one (beginner's bike) maybe a ninja 250r.. any thoughts
- brandelec0
that's a good one but you probably are gonna get a new bike later, so its also a good idea to get a 600cc bike now, so you wont have to switch it up soon

I'm going to take the MSF course next month. I'm only 5'6, 140 is a 600cc too big?

I have a '76 Honda 550 and it's a great starter bike. . .you can usually get a nice one for under $800.

used to ride. thinking of getting a bike with some of the profits after i sell my house. anyways... used to ride a cbr 600 f2. i'm about your dimensions too.... almost exact.
depends on what you want to do with the bike. if you just want a commuter cycle to and from work, that will do. BUT, if you're looking to start actively riding to wherever, vacations, weekend 100+ mile rides, you'll regret getting the 250. for one having everyone else with a faster bike will eventually piss you off. get a 600. really they are all nice. honda, suzuki, yamaha and kawasaki (in that order) are what i think are the best to the not as best ya know. ducati and buell have some great 600s but the repairs will be a bit higher.
i just rode a 1500 iron horse over the weekend and even though i did well, the bike rides you, you don't ride it. i've been on a number of 900s and even the suzuki 1000 and i managed well.
later on down the road when you get comfortable on a bike, you could def go up to a 750.
good luck.
oh, if you care... i'm very interested in the monster 900 by ducati. i know a guy who owns a custom bike shop so repairs service wise won't be that expensive, but parts may be.

I'm looking at a 2001 and you can pick them up for less than 6500. Some of them already with some nice customized parts and pipes.

Well. All I can say is that I rarely ever had problems with it and when I did it was very minor stuff. My personal opinion is that Hondas are the best built and best running. And.... in Chicago 2 years ago a guy on a stock f4 got busted for doing 171mph on Michigan Ave. Which the manufacturer states it will only do 150. When they heard about it they were quoted as saying "we're just as surprised at the number as the police were." So, if you want something that CAN go fast when you want it to its there.
I just think with the Honda you'll have little problems. You can pick up a used f3 or even a f4 pretty reasonable.

I picked up a Kawi EX500 about ten years ago thinking it would be a great beginner bike. 35,000 miles later it still fires up on the first shot. If you are over 6" it might be a bit small, other it's a great place to start. Nowadays it's called the Ninja 500. You'll want more than the 250 has to offer , imho.
take the rider class.
peace.

Sweet bike, you could be the leader.

:)
I'm sure we can find a better leader, though.
- piers0
If you can afford it go for the Ducati 749R.
- supes0
i am the leader. you must all go under 35 mph.

We could all go meet up over at starbuck carry our laptops wearing our leather NT"ERS jacket with matching bandanas
