I'm looking at a 2001 and you can pick them up for less than 6500. Some of them already with some nice customized parts and pipes.

Well. All I can say is that I rarely ever had problems with it and when I did it was very minor stuff. My personal opinion is that Hondas are the best built and best running. And.... in Chicago 2 years ago a guy on a stock f4 got busted for doing 171mph on Michigan Ave. Which the manufacturer states it will only do 150. When they heard about it they were quoted as saying "we're just as surprised at the number as the police were." So, if you want something that CAN go fast when you want it to its there.
I just think with the Honda you'll have little problems. You can pick up a used f3 or even a f4 pretty reasonable.
