My heart sank when I heard the news...
I have searched for understanding in this conflict for years and both sides have committed atrocities that keep me awake at night.
This link is to a short documentary made from footage shot by rebels who originally intended to use it as training material.
It is graphic, but gives insight into the tactics of both sides.

that's what drives it. alot of times the beginning of the conflict is skewed... the only thing people know is who/what personally harmed them.
ie: blown up home, dead family member, etc...
its a big cycle that never ends. sad but true.
