if a cd of music came with an option to fill out a form and send in 5 bucks to the record label for choosing to burn it - would you do it?
good faith cd burning?
- mr_snuggles0
Possibly, depending what label it is. But I don't quite understand what you mean?
- rasko40
would I pay an extra $5 to burn a CD I already bought?
err... no.
- blaw0
they best have lowered the asking price for the disc by $7 or $8.

sounds like a decent idea but really i wonder how many people would actually use it, good intentions only go so far.
- lvl_130
i would like to say i would, but to be honest i probably wouldn't. i think it would have to be really good and the artists would have to be scraping by. then i would by all means
- gruntt0
i'd send a xerox copy of a 5 dollar bill.

when designing the layout for the cd packaging - the record label would include a form that the owner of the cd could xerox and fill out - stating i have made xx copies of this cd and here are xx dollars.
maybe this would put the consumer on a list to receive bonus tracks, etc.
- mr_snuggles0
I see, then my answer would now be no. I no likey being on lists. Bonus tracks are not worth the spam.
- strabley0
two words come to mind when i think about sending a record company another $8 for a cd that i just bought, probably at the show of the band i just went and saw.... 'fuck + that'. Noble idea for christian albums.
- lvl_130
it would be a lot more effective if it could be done online. very few people would take the time to fill out the card get an envelope/stamp go to the post office and mail it. plus, you are not even supossed to send real money in the mail, right?

what about small indy labels?
and no spam - anything you receive would be something of benefit to a fan.
- strabley0
maybe if i got a stick pack or something cool out of the deal, hidden tracks, etc. otherwords 'fuck that'

there is nothing wrong with ripping and burning cds. dont you guys remember blank cassett tapes? they didnt bring the record industry down.
plus i really dont understand the question
"if a cd of music came with an option to fill out a form and send in 5 bucks to the record label for choosing to burn it "huh
- mr_snuggles0
Honestly, if I had burned 10 copies of an indie bands' CD and distributed them to 10 friends, the band should be paying me for all the promotion I have just done.
- _salisae_0
are there any circumstances you would consider?
- rasko40
as I see it the only way that people are likely to do this is if on purchasing the CD there was a way for them to quickly register or be given a unique URL where they could punch in some quick info, make a payment and be rewarded with a free web only mp3 or two.
Its all about ease and incentive, filling in and posting cards is a no-no, gotta make use of the 'impulse buy' tendency of mindless consumers ;)
and no, I still wouldn't but thats just me, hell, I stole from my moms purse for fucks sake. (but not much) then again, there was never much in there))

Fuck that, I would not be caught giving greedy ass record labels more money. They just use it to pump shit artists with huge advertising budgets.
Would you contribute $5 to Ashley Simpson's next album.... um no.
Indie labels, no also. I'm not that nice of a guy.
...but what am I talking about, I mostly listen to records anyhow... and as far as I know you can't burn those.
- _salisae_0
ric, certain record players allow you to record them as an mp3.
- rasko40
if you bought an artists print, would you pay extra to take a photo of it?
- -sputnik-0
if i'm making copies of cds i already own, then they are for someone else. why would i pay for that? shouldn't they, technically?
plus i have pumped enough money into the music business to last me about 100 years...enough is enough. the cost of making a cd is miniscule but the prices have been the same for over a decade...ripoff. what's happening to them now is their own damn greedy fault.
