'freehand is for spazzies',
I hate to spell it out for you. I know some spastics and therefore this is not an ignorant, naziist comment.
- rasko40
josimar I resent that, I'm not a spazzie I'm a joey
OK?!!

Neg, to be honest I don't really know just thought I would stir up some shit!
P.s as much as I love and respect tDR's work I would prefer to work for a company that was chosen for jobs because they are the best at conceptual design and communication not because they have a certain style. Like http://www.hat-trickdesign.co.uk… or http://www.thepartners.co.uk

Freehand is far superior to Illustrator, I wish more people would realize it.

Nick, I do some very nice stuff with Flash's drawing tools. I'm not completely happy with fill options but drawing lines is quick and easy,
Besides, who the fuck wants to drag little nodes and try to use some see-saw counter-intuitive process just to get a curve looking semi-decent? I just don't see the advantage.

the bezier system is 100x better than flash, trust me
you just have to learn it.. and you'll see what i mean
- fate0
But you can't tell me the advantage? It's like the matrix or something?
- blackspade0
agree
when you are really doing full-on illustrations, u cant beat it

flash's pen tool is retarded, i really wish i could explain why its retarded, but its SO hard to do anything with it.. the fact that you cant alt-drag your line things is super gay
(i dont know the lingo sorry hehe)

I don't know, maybe it's because I grew up with Flash that I can do anything in it without difficulty. I mean I can just click and drag a curve and it moves how I want it to. Simple.
Or if it's too jankey I just select the segment and press "smooth" and tada, it's smoother, instantly.

I was always a fan of Flash's drawing tool, and i still use it a lot because i am still learning and getting better and more efficient at working with beziar curves.
However i do see the advantage to beziar curves. In my experience from exporting flash stuff to vector formats, I find I get alot of anchor points which are un needed and thus result in more complex vectors. By doing your own with the beziar curves i find you can be much more efficient with the amount of vectors used.
Perhaps for the web this wouldn't be as noticeable but in terms of typeface design it would be and maybe even print, I am not 100% sure on that.
Although i love the very easy to use smooth and straighten features of flash drawing tools, being able to select part of a line segment and tweak your lines is v. handy.

FREEHAND FOR LIFE

im sure you can 'do' anything with flash - but its a matter of speed and efficiency for me, that just cant be matched with flash's pen tool
- fate0
Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I am very fast and accurate with Flash's pen tool.

but does software really matter in this case for applying for this job? In my opinion software is not that relevant, it's the quality you make in design that counts. For me Freehand can produce things the same as Illustrator, both vector. Ofcourse there are differences, but are they noticable in your final design?
