Stupid software.... i hate it...
whats the best 3d software for Mac?
- Kuz0
Maya?
- slappy0
Cineam 4D rules... its one of the fastest renderers.
Maya is ok if you can handle the complexity to do simple things but id go lightwave.
depends what you what to do with it. Are you a poly modeller or a dirty spline modeller?

mh....
besides a traditional graphic designer i am a traditional dirty spline modeller... :)
just making some stuff for a presentation of an exhibition. cinema 4d is ok for my objectives but i think its interface is a little bit "strange"... mh.... still testing it, maybe in a month i will make some cool stuff out of it...
thanks guys!

I used to be a dirty spline modeller, rhino was good for that.
You need to look past deforming primitives and using splines. Splines are good for hard body modelling like making peoples logos 3d etc. but if you want to start making trickier things like peoples faces and such, polygon modelling is the way to go. Just my opinion.
*waits for flames from 3ds dudes.

Why on Earcth could you like Lioghtwave? That thing needs one MAJOR GUI makeover.

i've been working for a while now with cinema in my opinion it was a sucky modeller without the mesh surgery plugin... but they just released version 9 which has all the extra modelling tools you need + the support of n-gons. An other thing is the childish interface of cinema, but i downloaded a really nice one which looks a bit like lightwave and give you much more 3d vieuw.
another application that is released today is modo, probably the best modeller available for mac. http://www.luxology.net

I love the way Cinema 4D works. The interface is so easy to understand and very customizable. True that the modelling tools are qite average without Mesh Surgery, but the modelling core of the program has been re-written in R9 and they've added heaps of new nifty tools.
I use Maya also, only because thats what we're using at uni this semester. It's pretty good too. Doesn't seem as hard to understand as people say.
I've used Lightwave for one semester at uni too and i couldnt stand it. The interface is so disgusting and it has way too many little annoyances.
Anyway, for mac, C4D is still the best option in my opinion, then maya.
But as rizon said, if you're only interested in modelling... look into Modo.

How can you say you like C4D?Lightwave is so much better.
Question: Can C4D do HDRI lighting? I didn't think so.
- rizon0
hdri lightning for a year now with the advanced render module
- Retro0
haha theplanet... how? umm.. because it is.
Lightwave is oldschool now. Time to re-code that dirty beast from the ground up. The interface is so bad.
If you only knew the amount of people who are moving from LW to C4D. I'm guessing they like moving to a shitter app?
- j_red0
that;s right the planet, you don't even know what you're talking about. are you crazy? yes!!!
- jg_20
what are you talking about guys?
go back to illu!

I don't have any experience with 3D and I'd like to learn CINEMA 4D. When I open it and click around I don't have any clue of what I'm doing. What's the best way to start? Are there good cinema4D tutorial sites or anything?
- slappy0
hahaha
how about everyone gets their 3d app out and see whos is the biggest...
*there goes my chance at alpha male
- slappy0
then look under resources i think
- jg_20
you can download some pdf manuals thru p2p, thats what i did... and i have to say its easy to learn, at least the basics!
