DO NOT get nVidia! It has always been hyped up as the best card, but really, the benchmarks speak for themselves and ATI's cards have always outperformed nVidia. Check Tom's Hardware for benchmarks, and i recommend you get an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

Here is a tip for those who say it looks arse.
If you change your video settings... you need to restart doom to get them to stick.
It wont take effect till you do this.
many people are playing it at 640 after they change the settings are are like WTF.

hmm, I installed DOOM 3 and can't get it to play. It keeps telling me to insert disk 1 when it is installed... DO I need a krack or something? HELP, I wanna be down with the DOOM...

that's a matter of opinion. the reason why you're saying ATI's are better than NVIDIA's is only because Tomshardware specifically did those testings while running the new gaming engines that allow for image-based lighting techniques and more memory intensive dynamics.I have a Quadro 4 980XGL and it works great for me while running Maya 6 and 3DS Max 6. However, when I had an ATI, it didn't run quite as smooth.
Different cards are built for different things. I just hope you're not assuming that ATI is better than NVIDIA simply because of an article that was specified for specific games for specific cards....you know?

i've played quake and doom since the very first day.
this game is the bible for gamers, developers, scriptwriters and anyone into the gaming industry.. so when i read this dumbass saying doom is arse i wish i could slap his face and send him back to his Sims world and get his fantastic bundle with Sims 1,2 and 3 and an icecream for free. this is doom !! there is no BUNDLE.. these people have been working for years to get that game out, and Mr lil prick comes out and find that game is arse.. how ridiculous. at least be a real gamer : comment, criticize, argue.. like u would do for a website ..show a bit of respect kids, doom has built the rules of most fps 3d games.. u can't say it's arse.. say u've got a bloody Apple Mac and u can't play or u can't pass the very first map cause u're lefthanded .. but u can't say shit like that on Doom... that just proves u're a real newbie ..

you should see the in-game features. I personally think HL2 has much more realistic dynamics according to its demo in comparison to what I've played in Doom 3 so far. The HL 2 engine, I know for a fact, is more advanced than the Doom 3 engine according to a lot of the articles I've read and demos that I've seen from gaming conventions, magazines and Siggraph. If you have doom 3 and want to bump up the graphics a bit. HERE'S A TRICK I just read:
Open “DoomConfig.cfg” file in C:\Program Files\Doom 3\base and play around with the number next to “image_cacheMegs”. This is how much RAM Doom 3 gets to use. I was able to turn on all the special effects and change from low to medium graphics...

the difference between hl2 and doom3 graphics wise is that the hl2 engine can have huge outdoor areas. doom3 focuses mainly on indoors hence they've been able to make it look alot better.
