nah nah nah. Being inspired I understand. I was not even on riip subject when I emailed him. He just told me that it was something that a friend of his drew up. Then when I showed him the original I never heard back from him. Either his friend lied to him or he lied about the so called "friend". Using any image is fine. Just don't so you created that image when you didn't. Ja seeeee.

People ripping of the Watchtower is too funny. I wish I'd thought of it first.

Well they are in NY.

Damn yo, I wonder what would happen if I started tracing Carty's photos and selling them on shirt for cash. You think he'd have something to say, especially when I don't give him the slightest warning?
How 'bout it Carty?

making an illustration out of somebody's photo is different than making an illustration out of somebody's ILLUSTRATION..

Why?

why don't you think about it

Looks like I'll be makin' mad money with my trace bitmaps using everyone from Life-in-vector to DesignChapel to Fatoe. I'll be rolling in the dough!

I dont think that is considered a rip because he redrew it in illustrator and its not nearly the same as in the book.... id call it inspiration vs a rip ;)

There are a lot of misunderstandings when it comes to copyright infringement. Tracing it in illustrator is not permitted. Whether the original is a photo or an illustration.

I don't know why people spend so much time talking about RIPs here.
I am mostly involved with the architecture world, and there are of course issues of originality and authenticity, but when I see a cantilever or white metal siding, I don't think 'RIP'.Imo, he borrowed the faces of the tiger-thing, and then recreated everything else. They do not look at all the 'same'. That's how I'd look at it, and to my understanding, that's how 'tracing' or using scanned images is defined with regards to copyrights - does it look like the original. If this is a RIP, then 90% of the vector work out there are RIPs.
Most importantly, the ts are kind of nice, and the other images looks decades, if not more, old.

Either way the guy has lost serious amount of respect. Shame, I liked his stuff but you can't help but wonder what else he 'borrowed'.
It's defo a rip btw.

*sigh* Off the horse mbr. If you would been paying closer attention it's what he said not what he did. He said that it was an ORIGINAL illustration. And clearly it is not. Although I understand what you are saying this is not the case with this guy.
