Where u work, do you have a creative team? I work as a webdesigner, but we also have a "creative team" as they like to call them selfs that work with print and marketing...
To make the story short, the boss told me last week to make a logo as a favor for a company downstairs...I did, everybody was happy ect...the clinet came to talk to me 2day about some changes, and as we talk, the lady in the "creative team" walks by and she starts to talk...and when she founds out I am making a logo for them, she laughs and tell the client to let her know when he want it to be done right! What a nerve! They are such jerks.
If you got a "crative team" is there alot of tension between them and you who work as webdesigners?
They get really angry when we do something like they usaly do, like a logo, but dont mind them self to step in and for example design a webpage.

Yeah spix. I work at a newspaper/magazine publisher and it seems that all of the print folks are kindof threatened by me and what I do. We just launched a web app that delivers construction bidding information in a database and allows users to track jobs and be emailed when the job gets updated. The print girls are tripping out like they are going to lose their jobs over it. It may be something similar in your situation.
my art director is supercool though.

i work in an IT company, and we have a creative team that says "Black servers must have black CD drives in them, not white!". to which I say "What does it matter!?"

i'd go have a personal talk with her and tell her she'll never do that again. that's very unprofessional, especially with a client present. get your boss(es) involved if you have to, you were just doing your job.

There are three of us illustrators, and we work along side the packaging team in the advertising department. Amazingly, we all work really well together. Everyone puts their two cents in & NEVER has an individual completed a project on his/her own. You need a team to get things done right. You need a variety of angles & opinions.
So stop whining & work with everyone so that it can be done right. :)

If your a Web "Designer", not Web "Developer" then you should be part of the Creative team.

i do page design and art direction for a newspaper and the web guys hate it when we give them suggestions or try to do anything. we just redesigned the site and working with them was a pain because they thought us "print" dudes didn't know anything about organization

yikes. I second...you absolutely should go talk to the woman who said this. I can't imagine that the higher ups would appreciate this being said in front of a client.
I've been on both sides and have to say I'm all about brainstorming but I don't want a print designer with no interactive experience directing me.

i work at a tv station, our creative dept is all promotions and broadcast people.
they like to send me 780x420 targa sequences of about 1000 images and think i should be able to "throw it on the web no problem".
or decide on some gigantic web app / contest / game and tell us 2 days before it goes live. woo!

well...I talked to my boss about it...and he left to talk to the higher bosses...and she acctually came back and asked if she could talk to me in her office...when I got there I got an appoligize from her. That is amazing. I'm shocked.

As someone said, if you are not part of the creative team... Then why are you working on logos?
we have the same problem, I'm in house, and people will ask who the fuck ever they want to get something done.
I mean, you shouldn't be doing logos man! Our product developent teams is always trying to do them, and they suck!
Its not your fault, you did what was asked. But for real, unless you are experienced in graphic design, it should be the designers in the creative team.
and when they design a web page, it is to maintain consistency. A lot of things for web are first done in Illy or PS, and you don't need to rebuild them for web.
Like brooke said, if you all worked together you could take advantage of the various expertises around.
But as a designer, yeah, hands off!
