changes his webpage.
the simplicity is gone.
now it's a hassle.

agreed, quite cumbersome,
looks like they should have spent one more week developing it.i still think their work is great though.
on that note, i'm just reading 'obey the giant' by rick pynor, highly recommended:

agreed, harder to find shit
- kannapore0
why did they change a great simple website into a smple nightmare?
- iDp0
I cant even open it, shep always sucked anyways IMO.
- blackspade0

I've personally never liked his work. I look at it and can't help wondering if the Andre the Giant was a mistake. Btw I still can't open the site...I'll try it ith Mozilla
- iDp0
wow that site is horrible in mozilla and I can't even open it in IE. The small thumbnails of work that I saw (since they wouldn't expand for me with Mozilla) looked decent but nothing earth moving about it. I don't know, just my opinion but the only thing he's ever done that impressed me was the Andre stickers....and that was impressive 7 years ago, now its played out.

you first said you thought andre the giant was a mistake, then you said the andre stickers were the only thing you liked...
- iDp0
I said I thought they were a mistake because I didnt like anything else he has done. A mistake for him, not in general.
- rasko40
saying "shep always sucked' is just silly.. at least not with a decent reason why.

Well I guess 'sucked' is a little harsh but tell me what the difference is between him and 2ADV? They both haven't strayed from one style since conception. 90% of obey is red beige and black, hell atleast 2ADV knows that there is more than 3 colors available.
Granted he has made his style and stuck with it, so you are quite sure who did it when you see it but still its a little repetitious no? I was begining to feel the same way about Scott Hansen (ISO50) until his latest poster, which is absolutely gorgeous BTW. I just simply don't respect artists/designers who produce the same exact thing over and over again. Even Shep didn't realize the power of the Andre stencil until it took off. So ok I guess if you want to praise his genious go for it...to me its a mess of red black and beige stencil work.
I feel like I'm cheating if I make two designs that are similar in process and design. This is all just my opinion anyways. If you guys like obey go for it, his work has just never impressed me. I'm sure there are plenty of people who both love and dislike our own designs, and thats life.
Cheers!

well there you go, now I can respect what you are saying, and I do agree to a certain extent, I for one have never had the same respect for Futura2000 as people seem to give him, he's a one trick pony as far as I'm concerned. You have the same thing with Sheo, I happen to think that while yes, the style has remained pretty constant, the quality and consistency of 'brand' actually strengthens what he does.. dosn't mean I'm a blind sycophant tho.
;)

yeah thats exactly how I feel. I do understand keeping a branded feel to things however my opinion is that brand similarity is for corporations not artists (well I guess Thomas Kincade has been doing it for years though eh?). I just don't understand how some artists can't venture out to create something new. It's almost like if something works really well for an artist that they are then afraid to go try and expand into something new. Instead its safer to stay under one umbrella instead of running out into the rain a few times.
- rasko40
yeah thats true, but you have to consider the obey thing as a campaign and so remains pretty constant, sure, it could do with some progression but then, there are better things to look at, obey is something people enjoy when they dosciver it and then they may choose to look deeper into the 'scene' an move on, so that cant be a bad thing.

repitition works
'Whether the reaction be positive or negative, the stickers existence is worthy as long as it causes people to consider the details and meanings of their surroundings. In the name of fun and observation.'
- iDp0
If repetition works for you then go for it.
