I'm looking at desktops and I really like Vaios. They're fast, pretty and offer DVD-RW on the models I'm looking at.
Now i heard things about Vaios. Bad things. Proprietary OS. Software Incompatibility. And I have to say the current Vaio Laptop I have cannot run Photoshop without crashing everytime.
This is what I was looking at getting, a PCV-RS322
Anyone have experience with the newer Vaio desktops, do share! :D

My friend had a Vaio desktop from 2002. The DVD drive/ CD RW broke, and it crashed in Premeir all the time. He just bought a 15 inch G4 laptop cos he was sick of it. Not saying you shoul dbuy a mac, but you asked.

Vaios are garbage. Proprietary parts and software everywhere and all kinds of garbage integrated into the motherboard. They are overpriced too.
Build a box or if you want something already built go with a Dell. These things are kind of cool with high-quality components inside

Ok thanks guys, I've been reading reviews and this finally put me over the edge. I'll stay away.
I only have about $500 to spend so I might just go the custom built route. Dell seemed alright, I dunno.

with a tight budget i recommend the dell refurbs. mine has been running like a champ for about two years now.

you could do a lot worse than a dell for that money - they have great customer support and the machines are generally pretty solid...

Get a Mac.

I would go with a dell. I've had one for just under 4 years and haven't had any problems with it yet.
on a side not, I'm just going to ignore every person that says "Buy a Mac" on a PC question thread.

build it

Build one...you can do it for less than 700 with good parts. Also look at small xpc cases like shuttle

I think that platform comes down to pure personal prefs i am a mac person but have many friends and equallty talented developers that use the both more often than not. Although i am 100% mac supporter and lover i do own a vaio laptop. I too have had problems in software related instances. I have also had os probs. I think that at the level computers are at all have their own problems. I have had bad experiences will all the systems i have ever owned. Yet maybe that i why i still have all of them PACKRAT

I'm afraid of building my own PC :\ My luck is I spend money on a bunch of parts that don't work together.
I'm holding off on buying for a tad longer, so I'll look at custom built options and compare them to Dell (which I was really impressed with looking at their site) Shipping parts will also get me in cost.
