U know when you add 'multiply' to a layer in photoshop (knock-out the white)?
Is there a way to flatten it so the white is gone forever? When I merge with another layer the white comes back to haunt...
Thanks in advance...

cant you just link the layers and do 'merge linked'?
- hUtCh0
Nah, it seems to reveal the white again :oS
- rasko40
hmm.. save as?

can't you just do an 'airbrush' on it, 'bleach' it or something, special effects that sorta thing. bang, drop shadow, fucking emboss....logo. money. fanny! daft eh?

can you not just leave as mulitplied layer then flatten when you've finished?!

Cutting to the chase...
I'm playing Photoshop tennis with a buddy. I need to flatten each 'round' onto a layer so we can track each move.
So basically all my messings need to be flattened to one layer. The cutouts need to be done quickly and easily.
After all, I am supposed to be working!

cant you just use layer sets?
or just save as a flattened tiff and then copy paste back in.. bit long winded but hey

select the layer that has the multiply effect, then link it to the layer to be merged, then merge linked. you have to have the layer with the effect selected for it to work

Still doesn't work.
Thanks all the same everyone...

create a new layer- on the new layer hit:
SHIFT-OPTION-APPLE-E (on a mac)
this will take a SNAPSHOT of your whole image- shut off any layers you do not want in the snapshot (i.e background layer)
select ALL- copy- create a new doc and you got a fresh start bowyy!

not sure why it won't work for you. i just opened an rgb color image, made the background layer into layer 0, then brought in a grayscale tiff, a black logo with white around it. i 'multiplied' it, then with the logo layer selected i linked the two layers, merged the linked layers and i still have it intact, no whitespace around the logo. i'm not sure why it won't work for you dude.

I dunno either. I'm certain that I've done it before.... I know I have!
Just having one of those days. I believe your right and I'm wrong, somehow.
Could be my Mac playing silly buggers I suppose.

what is in the layer that is being multiplied? an image, and eps, something drawn?
- hUtCh0
It's a Gif that I pasted in from google...

hmm, gifs are wierd at times, with the whole indexed color thing. but still. i know what you are talking about, i've had it happen before. how many layers do you have linked when you try to merge? thats the only other thing i can think of. when more than two layers are merging, then the layer effect usually shuts off. it has to be two layers directly linked.

Multiply does not knock out the white. This only works if there's a darker color underneath.
To knock out the white:
double click a layer in layers pallete and move the right of the top slider under 'blend if'.
To fix the aliasing drag 'half' of the slider with option.
another option is to use the 'extract' command.
there are many ways to knock out the white, and there isn't one way that will work for evry situation.
btw, you can select all, command+shift+c to copy merged into a new layer to do what it is I think your trying to do.
