Hello all, I’m looking to purchase my first Wacom tablet soon and was hoping to get some advice. I have searched through the past discussions on this topic and I am left with only a few questions.
What are the real differences between the Intuos2 and the Graphire3? Is the margin of cost really worth it if I go with the Intuos2? I already have decided to go with Wacom and I know which size is for me, but I still have no clue which model is best. Thanks in advance!

I use the smallest intuos
works for me
The bigger the better maybe

Thanks solmo,
I have already decided which size is best for me. I need to know what the real differences are between the Graphire and the Intuos. Because the Intuos is so much more I expect it to have many more features over the the Graphire. However, I cant seem to find much info that separates them.

The smallest one, costs 99 bucks. I use it at home and work. Better then the big ones. I used the big one and ended up mapping it to a small portion of the tablet. The bigger the crappier I say.

Thanks anyway zoiks,
I am wondering if the differences are worth the money. So you are saying that you aren't noticing much of a difference between your two tablets?
- zoiks0
No, I use PS all the time and no difference to me. I do web design and marketing ads for magazines and newspapers.
I am not an illustrator though. You may notice a difference if you are a professional illustrator...
But I am your average designer, and notice no difference. I would use either interchangeably without noticing any differences.

Thanks zoiks,
I'm going to be using mine for illustration, so I feel like the extra money may go a long way. However, I'm a poor college student so every purchase must be planned.
Can anyone else help explain the differences?

all depends on the nature of your setup i guess... i use Intuos, always have... larger the better for me (9x 12 is what i use)... i say larger is better, as i use two large monitors on 16x12 res... especially for illustration work, it will feel more precise to have a larger tablet mapped to a large desktop.. a small tablet will seem ultra sensitive and hard to control at times.. hope that helps.... got large, spend the extra cash, is totally worth it.. great product, no problems... plus, i use it as my primary mouse replacement... a small one on 2 monitors would just be ultra annoying.

Thank you foRz, just the kind of advice that I was looking for, although I will not be using two monitors. I’m not really concerned about the size of my tablet. I have already decided which size is right for me. I’m really just apprehensive with the differences between the two models (Graphire and the Intuos). I wonder if buying the Graphire is going to hold me back in anyway.

get the intuos! you will not regret it..... plus, there are a slew of better features... like crazy Pressure sensitivity (great for illustration)... it is just the all around "proffesional" model that they make.

I've also wanted one for a long time now and haven't been motivated to buy it. Gotta' get one.

the intuous has more pressure sensative stuff.. its worth it if you will use it.
- Dublao70
Thanks guys, so besides pressure sensitivity there are also more features? The only differences that they really point out are the sensitivity levels. I will be using it mainly with Illustrator and Photoshop. Is it really worth the cost (nearly double)?

For illustration pressure sensitivity is a big issue, I think its reason enough to go for the intuos2. I always have problems with my graphire, it seems to have "bad" spots that only register the highest pressure reading, so I end up with huge blobs on my drawing mid stroke and have to undo more than I'd prefer.
I have not used an intuos mind you, but I have not heard of anyone who does have one mention my problem.

tilt Tilt TILT my peoples. The intuos2 features tilt settings the graphire3 don't have. if you can afford it (and have not done so already) go for the intuos2, it's well worth it. Besides, they may be coming down in price soon...

got a Intuos 9x12 and have been using it to color comics for a couple years now. It's paid for it's self so many times over...
actually I'm thinking about buying a newer model in the next month or so. These suckers are one of the best inventions... give Painter a try with a wacom tablet and you won't be able to stop. It makes life so much easier.

I've heard good things about the Intuos

Go Intuos...but then why not get the Cintiq and draw right on the screen?.... thats the future, everything else is just a stop-gap until the technology (and price) catches up.
At GM Design we started using 11x18 Wacoms about 8 years ago, and only now are they starting to make the on-screen tablets at a size that car designers will even consider (side view sketches need some serious space)... this stuff evolves so slow...
