Bought the Alan Parker film "Pink Floyd The Wall" on dvd this weekend. Seeing it again for the first time since I was 16 made me realise what a big influence this movie has been on me and my urge to create narratives through drawning and photography...
Anyone else can pinpoint a work of art/movie/song that pushed you towards the creative path you're walking now? Amen.

Institute Benjamenta by The Brothers Quay.
Ended up being a bit of a crap film (bad 3rd act). But to date the most enchanting thing i've ever seen. Saw it when i was 15, opened my eyes to the fact that images can do much more than convey simple narrative.
And yes i'm aware that its a contradiction to say this film goes against traditional narrative ideas, and then slate the fact it had a crap 3rd act. Point is - it had this stupid contrived ending that tried to bring order to the whole thing. Unnecessarily, cos it took away from the magic of it. Still, we're talkin about influential - not favourite.

The Spike Lee film "Do The Right Thing" made me want to create art...
I was a high school student. I thought I wanted to be an engineer. After seeing this film, I decided I wanted to be an artist. Thank you Spike.

"Titanic."

No, really. The movie was lame, but the part when Jack draws Rose on the couch overwhelmed me, in a good way, at the time. I was in high school then, working at a movie theatre.

Actually, a pretty big influence was my ex-boyfriend, Carlos. He opened my eyes to everything while we were in college. I suppose I owe him a lot for all he showed me. He saw my potential, more than anybody, and pointed me in the direction of success.

I think it's nice some people in your environment stimulated and inspired you, Brooke. As for me, my parents wouldn't let me see "The Wall" at first, because they felt it was disturbing and "dangerous". Had to break loose and figure it out for myself really.

For me its Michael Whelan, the artist who did the covers to all the Isaac Asimov and H.P. Lovecraft novels.

i got a Bon Jovi album when I was little.
I told my mom that I thought the cover looked terrible – and that I could do a much better job.
She said to me,
"You know, Gorbie... there are people that get paid to do that all day long."
