He backs up another Brinks truck to his bank vault.

I think he should be crucified.

this was supposed to be a reply to another post, but let's run with it, shall we?

couldn't agree more. Mel is a "schmuck." that's yiddish for idiot, I think.

After the Pope gets his cut.

damn!

This seems pretty senseless. Does no one remember that he couldn't even find a distributor for this film? He had to fund the film with his own money, originally intending for no subtitles? You can't seriously think that he expected this movie to be the hit that it was?
Everyone seems to be searching for a reason to find fault with this film. If there is one, this certainly isn't it. Whether you agree with church or religion or not, he is giving away at least $100 million.

he should give it all away, what is he an evangelist? people shouldnt make money off of religion, case fucking closed.
- Mimio0
Planet,
I think people are responding to the shameless profiteering. For instance, they were selling commemorative crucifixion spikes.
- mrdobolina0
I also love how you just CAN'T criticize that movie without some zealot getting offended.
- Mimio0
It's obviously Catholic propaganda.
- planet010
I'm not saying selling crucifixion spikes is a good thing. I also doubt mel gibson was behind that though. Prove me wrong though.
As far as giving it all away, why? I don't think he was setting out to cash in. He wanted to tell the story of the passion to others, for it to effect others as it has effected Him.
Money in itself is not evil - there is not reason to believe that his motives were not pure.
- planet010
I haven't actually heard you criticize the movie itself yet mrdobolina?
- mrdobolina0
I refuse to see it. I am a devout atheist, but I respect your superstitions.

I just read this on some guys blog, this is downright creepy:
"Today I saw the film " The Passion of the Christ". It was a fantastic picture! You should see it! It could change your outlook on what God has done for you. It may affect what you plan to do for the rest of your life. If you are an adult and have a reason not to see it, please call me so we can talk about it. If you want to write out your thoughts on the movie I will publish it here with your name. Mel Gibson was asked if he was in the movie. He said that he was but it was only of a clip of his hands giving a final death blow to Jesus He wanted to take the responsibility as man for the death of our Lord"

catholicism is a business
1 billion catholics worldwide which is of course his primarily audience
his movie was a sure shot to make mad paper
of course with everything that's stirring controversy, the target audience expands rapidly

dobs is dead on. Not even your minister/preachers/deacons what have you shouldn't be making money. Jesus said not to take money for the work you do. Sounds pretty simple to me.

He and his jew-hating father need to go away. That film made me physically sick. It offers no hope, no insight into the man whatsoever. If I wanted a two-hour flogging, I could go see Ichi the Killer.
- mrdobolina0
another thing I like is people calling it 'a realistic depiction'. someone enlighten me on just how the hell they would know?
- planet010
Mel Gibsons hands were indeed used to nail the hands to the cross. The symbolism being that it is not the Jews or the Romans or whoever that killed Jesus, but it was all of us (all our sins - including Gibsons) that did. Christ was the final sacrafice and payment for our sins.
I am not a catholic, but it is important to note that no church (catholic or not) is made up of humans who are inherantly imperfect. Thus, mistakes have been made and will continue to be made.

exactly, being that much of it was written after the "fact" and that it was enhanced and elaborated upon to help spread the gospel and pitch the faith to the masses.
