so i've had it a day and am already having a problem.
i plug it into the wall, and it shows that it's charging. a couple hours later it stops, and the screen says "charged".
i then navigate to the menu, where the battery says it's only half full. so i plug it in again.
no longer does it say it's charged, even though it did like .5 seconds ago. it runs another several hours, "charging".
then it just does the same thing again.
i've had this thing running ALL NIGHT while i sleep. why isn't the bastard thing full?

the battery meter is notorious inaccurate...give it a try and see how long it lasts....

is there an update or something i can download that will fix it?
'cause i hate having a retarded ipod.

Change it.
- scarabin0
change what?
return it?
- jevad0
if there is an apple store near you take it in and have them test it

You can't swap it for one that works? Surely this doesn't happen to every ipod?
- scarabin0
i could, but i was looking for a better alternative than driving to pasadena or shipping it off and not getting it back for a week or more.

mine does the same shit. apparently there is a upgrade or soemthing but it always shows that the meter is off.
i have retarded ipod too. oh i can't wait till ithe battery dies and then i have to pay $100 for a new one.

I suppose that would be bothersome to me also if my iPod did that. However, the only thing similar to that issue that I've experienced is that after charging, wherever the battery meter was before I charged it. Thats where it stays until I have it playing for 5 min or so. Then it displays as fully charged.
Make sure you have run all the iPod updates.

Further confirmation that iPods are gash.

it seems pretty lame that a basic feature like this wouldn't work.
i mean that they'd sell something at all that had a feature that didn't work.

When you first got your iPod, you needed to calibrate its battery. you gotta let it run until it's completely dead, then charge it for 4 hours, and run it 8-10 hours until the battery is dead again and then fully charge it. if that doesn't work, i'd suggest exchanging it while you still can.

"if that doesn't work, i'd suggest exchanging it while you still can"
Amen.
- jevad0
yes - make sure you run all the recent updates....
- scarabin0
thanks for the input, everyone.

hopefully it's just a new battery thing and it'll go away after some use.

I think anyone who has knowledge of the software/hardware industries pretty much knows that most of the products on the market are not developed to their full capabilites based on development schedules and budget constrants. Need I even say the word "microsoft"?
However, I truly believe that the issue with a minor feature not working on an Apple product is probably due to user error. ie, not charging and draining the battery properly (basic cell phone knowledge) And no doubt by a windows based pc user.

i'm pretty sure my proficiency with windows has nothing to do with the notoriously faulty ipod battery.

The battery monitor works by watching the voltage decline as the battery empties, if it's being innacurate it's probably an issue with the battery not the ipod. This is comon with new batteries, or batteries that have been improperly charged. Just use it until the battery is dead, then charge the battery all the way up, and make sure to always charge from dead or very near dead untill full, that should fix your problem.

My ipod does that too. But after playing if for a couple of songs you can see the battery meter go up to full.
Has anybody got the ipod care from apple?
If your ipod is more then 6 months old they charge you $30 to get it serviced even though is still under the 1 year warranty. Strange.
When you spend sooo much money on an mp3 player you think they would stand behind their product more.here is a good article from ipod lounge about the battery:
