What the fuck, I was just starting to redesign my website and apparently now all this wood texture is a "trend." how come nobody told me?

Should I run with the wood texture or is it too "trendy" now?

ignore everyone dude, if you see would textures and you like it then fuck it, rock it... if everyone limits themselves to whats trendy or what isnt we'd never design anything of merit....

If it's to find work... make it something potential employers are gonna like... if it's just for you... make it somehting you like.
that's good advice no matter how you slice it. except maybe crossways.

Ya I'm getting my site ready too. I have done some research and here are my conclusions:
Try something really PoMo like 3d japanese mechs standing around subway stations, surrounded by vector silouettes of sexy hipster chicks, all of which can superimposed with gritty circus fonts (or disco-type) and spattered illustrations of mexican wrestlers. The design really should be trimmed with a victorian wallpaper pattern, but alternatively a large jpeg of some cityscape you shot with your digital camera while stoned will suffice as a background. Throw in a large pixelly space invader for good measure. Hot pink and lime green work as a colour scheme, or loose the colour and go with b&w. Use tiny, tiny device fonts with stikeouts for rollovers and other such lowtech, retro computery gimmicks so that you can show the veterans that "you were there in '92". As for your writeup, 'glib' is the attitude of choice these days, so be as cocky and irreverant as you can. Sound like you don't care. If you live in a large, fashionable metropolis, make sure the fact is smeared everywhere, and if you live in butt fuck nowhere, shutup about it or better yet lie, unless you are scandanavian, in which case you are cool by default even if you go to work in a reindeer sled. And don't forget the heraldric eagle logo and obscure music links!
Good luck!
