There's a reason these are called ultimate ears... This is what the rich rock stars use...

SONY studio monitors are foldable and somewhat compact- yet they bump the SH** out of anything I've seen, except maybe those BOSE ones that are noise-cancellation headphones for around $300 US

I've got these
http://www.headphone.com/layout.…for my digital 8-track recording set up at home. Pretty pleased with them, but wouldn't want to carry them around with my mp3 player.
Great thread, I'm actually in need of new ones because Sony can't make the behind the neck headphones without the fabric falling apart over time. My pair is dying as I speak.

Ive been a supporter of Sennheiser Headphones for a few years now.
but if you travel a lot, I'd get those ultra-hip BOSE headphones

I few first class in Air Canada not long ago and they actually have SICK headphones in first class, the problem was that they were the two-prong type. The good thing was that they had laptop DVD players up there and in the leather carry case there was a 2-prong to 1-prong minijack converter, so i swiped that too!
The ear padding is kinda like this really soft leather, and it fits really nicely around the ear, and inside it has a nice soft spongy material which pads the surface of the ear quite nicely. the band across the head also has this soft leathery padding on it too.
Granted, they may not be the best on the market, but I got them for free!
So next time you're on an airplane, take a look through first class on your way off the plane and see if they have any First Class headphones sitting around and try to swipe them. Maybe you can find a minijack converter from Radio Shack or something.

Hey, just giving some feedback of the Sony behind the ear headphones I've used for a year or so vs. the Sennheiser's I have for home recording
http://www.headphone.com/layout.…Just out of curiosity I plugged them into my mp3 player (Creative Zen Xtra) and holy damnit is there a difference.
I'm getting some new ones to carry with me and tossing those Sony's. Will look for something other then the 212 Pro because they don't fold up and are kind of bulky.

sorry i havent read the whole thread if i am repeating anything...
but you should get the 'noise reduction' ones, my dad just bought these and said they are great for cancelling out plane and background noise....

I got a pair of Sennheiser HD 280,http://www.headphone.com/lay... When I dj at clubs there was always a problem with having to hear music coming out of the headphones cause of the music monitors. These totally cancel out outsides noise and each side can turn out so you can hear one side if some is trying to talk to you, it's foldable, squeezes my head (and no my head is not huge - just my igo,hee hee!), makes a good ear muff. Sennheiser got as a customer if these ever break down.

The aforementioned Sony Mdr D77

grado is serioiusly the best, but they are not super comfortable and let a lot of noise in. However, they are my recommendation to everyone that wants headphones. They are just tops hands down.
