Monkeyshine,
I don't have any kids yet... but in plans for next 3 years... We have 3 cats... How do you move your pets? Plane I guess? Is it costly?

I do not have any kids...but i would go for it. You only live once and you will probly regret not makin the move later in life.

woodyBatts, you have a point. it's totally true what you're saying. it's just that things are "stable" for me now, and i'm just scared of messing things up i guess... but hey, with 35K and my girlfriend not working at the moment, we won't be able to get a kid and/or a house in Montreal anyways... So, I guess we don't have much to lose to try it out somewhere else where I can get at least, the double I'm making right now... and where my girlfriend could find something better for her too. I think i'm going to follow all of your advices and get my head up and charge right into it! Thanks so much for exchanging your experiences guys, helped alot!

I don' like freezing winter, but i lie my girlfrien :-) you know how it is. Girlfriends ...
I also went to Vegas, California, etc a lot of times. I made route 66 from Chicago to LA.

I'd live in Montreal over Florida anyday.

Brooklyn,
Reading one of your responses reminds me of how I felt before I first moved. I had anxiety because I was afraid of making the "wrong" decision. Thing is, there is no right or wrong. What's the worst that can happen? Maybe you'll be a bartender for a few months until you find the right job? Maybe you'll decide where you move isn't for you and move somewhere else after a year or two?
You'll be fine! Don't make decisions based on fear.
Everytime I have moved I've driven. I drove across country twice in a tercel with a dog and two birds! That was fun...NOT...but we all made it in one piece. :)

Monkeyshine,
You're sooooo right too. That damn fear I always have. Just when it's time to make the move... I back off... 3 times now... NY... Had the job shit and didn't want to get there at the last minute... Now, one of my project manager where I work knows a few guys having businesses in Tampa Bay, they are only waiting for my resume... Forget it, I freaked out... And now, another project manager from NY just contacted me to see if i want to go work to California... And this is when I started this post... not knowing what to do!!!

What's the problem with your salary in Montréal ? Is it so low ?
- lj0
Why are you so scared ? moving from canada to US is not a really big move. Mine is bigger :-)
- Brooklyn0
Im at 37K to work with the NY office... and I know that designers that work in the NY office are around 75K and 95K... I know life cost alot more in NYC... but still, 75K US for a canadian is like 125K !!

B, you must be an earth-bound Virgo! ;)
Come to Nashville...its cheap, cool, and we need some great Flash designers. You would rule the town here.
- Gorbie0
i think you've been lied to Brooklyn.
- Brooklyn0
What am i so scared off? Well, i guess it's just all the trouble of getting there. Finding a new job, getting so many paper work done, finding a new place to live, my girlfriend's also needs a job, the move, getting settle at the new place... and if it's not working out, doing all that same drill again to get back... new appartment, new jobs...

Gorbie, lied to about what? Nashville? ;-)
- Gorbie0
no..
you're fellow designer's salaries.
