well most of them arent

most of the designers I know are. they've taken their interest/passion for art and gone to school, educated themselves with a strong foundation in fine arts and gone on to a career in the commercial arts.

designers don't have to be artists. artists don't have to be designers.

'editor' at a mag i'd once worked for used to claim that writers were a dime a dozen...

pipefitting and carpentry can be considered art. i consider coding to be an art.
all depends on one's interpretation.

Design is a system of organization. It is not art.

couldn't the rules of the language and the desired genre be considered the spec sheets?
regardless, i still feel it's a matter of interpretation. If you don't think it's art, well more power to ya.

"couldn't the rules of the language and the desired genre be considered the spec sheets?"
nah,
language = canvas
- tripleflux0
wait, I think I'm wrong. I think art is now design and the other way around.
