There is only 1.3 lbs difference between the 15" and 17".
To me it is totally worth carring the extra 1.3 lbs of the 17 "around. You can set the 17" down anywhere and its like a desktop.
Sugesstions:
Don't slide your powerbook. Alsways pick it up a bit and set it back down. The little rubber feet/pads will break off if you do this too much.

i got a battle tested 15" 887, and Its starting to chunk up on some apps especially iphoto, but i would not trade it for the world, and yea get a sleave cus the keys burn into the lcd and apple care wont cover it.......viva le mac
