I'm sure the majority who read this will select 'studio' over internal 'corporate' as far as being a designer.
I have an uncle who's an Art Director internally for a major electronics company - and he and I have been discussing the pro's and con's of working for internal corporate vs. a studio.
your thoughts on both please...

I work in-house for 3 newspapers/magazines.
less clients is a pro to that.

i'm not sure about the security part in todays market. whether you're corporate/in-house or studio/freelance you can become useless at a moments notice.
i've always worked in-house at medium-large corporations. i just prefer the atmospher; suprisingly enough.
course, i'm not a designer. i hear the arguments all the time about how it kills creativity. dunno about that. but, for server admin and programming...i prefer corporate to small shops any day.
i work for a relatively small organization now and honestly, i can't handle the mindnumbing political squables that happen here.
a lot speak on the hassles of corporate department politics, but i have more trouble with middle managers in this small shop than i did in the huge conglomorant.
i'm (sort of) a director. so, i have say. but, i'll tell you what...middle managers think they run the place. and everyone one of them thinks their 'department' is the tits.

It's true that either are somewhat unstable, but a corp. definately has a steady stream of work (I work for one that has 300 employees). A small agency can have a lull in clientele and lay off people fast. Not so much in a corp.
But you sacrifice creativity and working with more creatives that you would have in an agency. Agencies do pay more mostly, and have a more diverse range of projects.
Tough call.
