well the papers are signed, the resignation is in, i'm packing it up and heading to Newport Beach.
Anybody know the area? Any suggestions on where to live? Looking for a nice apartment complex in a decent part of town.
Any help would be most appreciated...

i grew up in costa mesa (the city inland of newport) and hung out in newport all my life. i'm down there every weekend to see my mom. what do you want to know?
the best way to find an apartment in newport is to drive around. what is your price range? if youre near the marina or on the beach youre looking at a pretty penny. the bluffs are pretty pricey too. you might be able to find yourself a little guest house and rent from a private owner (cheaper).
other than that, if youre hurtin to find an apartment right away i suggest picking up like an OC apartment guide or look at them online. theres nothing but big houses and big apartment complexes in central/south orange county.

Yo in8, dig your portfolio. I'm in Costa Mesa (practically Newport). Where are you coming from anyway?
Newport Beach is really nice and clean, quite expensive. . and well, snobby. I guess it all depends on your budget. Whatever you do though, avoid Irvine like the plague. . . it's the ultimate planned community, it would drive you nuts.

you're in for a real financial treat in Newport...I live in beautiful Tustin, and its affordable, just 10 minutes away from Newport. BTW love the BEP minisite, better than their 'Official Site'!
All OC designers must unite!

i'm coming from D.C. so I'm used to high rent prices. what are some apartment complexes pretty close the action there?
what are some of the areas right outside of newport?

theres costa mesa.. you can shoot for the edge of costa mesa/newport and be like 15-20 blocks from the beach (nice bike ride)... and rent would be up to 500 dollars cheaper a month.
you could go for the edge of costa mesa and corona del mar (better than newport but actually part of the city but w/ a different name) and be close to the bluffs type area.
you could look at a little older but bigger apartments in costa mesa near orange coast college where it is really affordable and cute.. and you could basically afford to rent a house for what youre paying in newport and be a 3 minute drive from the city line and a 5 minute drive from south coast plaza. you could live near south coast plaza.. kinda pitzy, also in the city of costa mesa. (costa mesa really has it all.)
you might wanna take a drive to south county. some people like the planned community and its an attractive place to live. so, then irvine, mission vejo wouldnt be so bad of a place to live. i personally think those cities are beautiful and you could rent an apartment that maybe one person has ever lived in before you.
also.. the next beach over from newport/corona del mar is laguna.. which i think has way more character than newport but is no less expensive. it has really great cliffs too and more cute little art studios and galleries (and the best vegan friendly resurant in OC, toco loco).
another beach bordering newport is huntington beach.. you could live near that city line too. it used to be the ghettoest of the OC beaches (which really cant be considered ghetto really.. not compared to LA) but they tore down and are still tearing down anything remotely close to the beach and building new apartments and beach resorts... so living near that cities edge is now desireable.
in the end.. you could end up paying 1500 -2800 a month depending on how you want to live in newport for an apartment unless youre living near another city border or a hop skip away from the city line. you wont find much of a better deal unless you have someone who will sublet to you or you have time to really hunt down a killer deal. who knows.. theyre around sometimes.
or you can go inland a bit.. and take a 10 minute drive down the 55 freeway (which dead ends in newport beach so you'll get familiar with that one)... and try out tustin which has some very cool areas.. everything from brand new to older apartments and rental homes with character. theres also anahiem.. and some parts of santa ana are actually bitchin.
hope that helps.

how is 30th Street over by the ocean?
- shellie0
i couldnt tell you unless i was there. be careful. the cheap places in NP (if youre looking online) can sometimes be dumps. take it from someone who also was looking to live in NP beforei got my job in LA (now im in santa monica)

You forgot the peninsula Shellie =P
The Balboa peninsula is the Newport Beach party zone. Beach front properties, Traffic/Parking is a bitch if not impossible and there are lots of partiers brah.Shellie is right, you have to check out Taco Loco. Get the Mushroom Tofu burger and you'll be hooked. I was, and I don't even like tofu.

there are no apartments on the pennensula tho. thats prime real estate. but there are alright parties there if you want to feel like youre on the show "the OC"
it would be really funny if we knew each other letgo. did you used to go to shows at koo's art cafe and stuff? i used to work there back when far played.
- letgo™0
Only been to koo's once. I move around a lot. . . in Costa Mesa for two years now though.

Give us a shout when you get here.

Ahhh the memories... Newport Beach chewed me up and spat me out... good times!
Some pics from a few years ago... Here's our apartment we lived in Irvine (about 15mins drive inland)

I grew up on the peninsula - you can find places to rent on the # streets. Theres some killer places... not sure what the price range is. The letter streets are 2-3 grand weekly so you want to avoid even thinking of that. # have to be somewhat affordable as Irvine students live there. Huntington would be ok, just find somewhere closer to the beach.

hey in8...Newport is where the dog beach is. Mind it if I stop by after you get your place and rinse my retriever out after he swims?

anybody know anything about the Coronado Apartments over on Irvine Ave and 16th Street? Are they a nice place? Overpriced? Anything would help here.
- shellie0
anything in irvine is pretty much no more than 20 years old.. and most things are less than 5 years old. so most likely its fairly nice. even tho UCI is there.. its a pretty clean, quiet... not college like town. you should check it out for yourself thooo
