Seems Mac is finally getting greedy: chasing $$ at the expense of brand loyalty.
They had a good thing going. The iPod and iTunes seemed to be luring PC users to Apple...now they can get it all from HP? Where's the long-term thinking?
I wonder how this will play out.

or now youve got a PC vendor who is aligning with apple and ITMS...the fabled microsoft music enterprise just took a big hit...there is no money is online music, they need max expose to generate revenue and promote the iPod...and who knows, there was only a size jump at macworld...and the hPods wont be out for at least a few months...by that time, the iPod may have totally different features/design, and HP gets the "old" one...so people still want superior apple iPod....

You make some decent points, but I dunno if HP is gonna be duped that easily. Though, yeah...HP can offer the old design at a lower price, Apple can come out with a new generation...but didn't they just do that? Whatever, iTunes bundled with HP is great strategy to lure more users to that service...but I hate to see the iPod with an "HP" retrofitted to it.

the iPod mini is a new generation...i was referring to a future revision of the white "adult" iPod lineup...maybe intergrating video or something...then HP just gets old iPods...that might be ok....
dont get me wrong, i agree, i hate to see a blue hPod without the apple logo...that sucks....

so you get this straight, apple IS looking to the future here.
This isnt about ipods, its about itunes and more importanty quicktime. apple needs a stronghold in the music service market and they have to do it soon or they are dead. (btw, being the media player for all macs is only a tiny blip on the screen.)

lets not forget how microsoft killed netscape. by shipping every pc with ie. they will do the same with media player and napster. thats why apple has to find allinaces with pc manufacturer. the ipod was the only thing they could give back.

even if the hp ipod is cheaper the mac die-hards will still by the apple one for that shiny little logo. they wont lose any sales.

Also, Apple is a publicly traded company. Do you think most of their shareholders give a shit about anything other than the bottom line?

don't worry it is just a special blue version of the ipod. If you makes you feel better hp computers will be shipping with apple software on the desktop.

apple makes a primo product and its kind of sad to hear that hp is gonna grace the ipod, im a PC die-hard and wouldnt consider the hp even at a lower price..apple makes there bank once again
- ER0
i hope its cheaper. theres no reason ipods should be so expensive. my two cents.

If you told me even three years ago that I could have 15GB of storgage in my pocket for $300 I would have laughed heartily.
I like this concept of 'selling out' like Apple is some kind of indie band.

If I wanted to register to read a news article I'd move to Communist Russia.
