Can anyone give me some tips on removing the original drive? The cable is really hard to get out and the drive seems to be still fastened after removing all the side screws.

i had to do it with my office machine. after you remove the screws, its a lift and slide mechanism. you gotta lift it and pull it back. or something like that.
ive been drinking.
but it slides in and out. i didnt figure it out til i got the new drive and the instructions esplained it. also those cables are a bitch to wiggle out. just get a solid grip with your thumb and index finger and wiggle like hell

"ive been drinking.
but it slides in and out."That was funny. Yeah I still need help. I'm going to try it again tonight. The cable is really hard to get out. No luck yet.
Im replacing the original hard drive with what was the second drive. I already moved the jumper to the master position and plugged the ribbon that was in the original into the newer one.
Is that all I need to do to set it up or do I have to set it to master somewhere in the OS as well? I'm guessing the other cables are generic power cables and it doesn't matter which one is in which?

I forgot to ask, which model of g4 tower do you have?
- CX0
The original. One of the first that came out that were in the 350 -450mhz range.

nu, that splash is groovy btw. I'll be interested to see the rest.

Well since our g4 towers are the new one I'm not sure I can really help. But I asked my friend since he has your tower.
He said there was something to do with removing the screws that hold the HD to the case and then also about unscrewing some screws that hold a heat plate to the HD.
When it comes to using the old hard drive as the main one, just make sure the jumpers are set to master. The diagram for the HD jumpers should be printed right on the HD top.
Also if your interested I have a few more bits from the splash.

Yeah that stuff is slick. For some reason I can't find anything on the web about it. Only Powerbooks.
All the side screws are out. I'll have the check that heat plate thing.
Thanks, dude.
Did you site used to be New Army?
- nu0
Humm probably.
I've been reading NT for the longest time. I just never bothered to say anything.
If you can't figure it out I'll go back to his place today and take some pictutes of removing the HD.

Thanks, dude. Sorry I wasn't really clear.
Did your website used to be
newarmydesigns.com?

nope, never owned that.

I just heard that it's probably screwed in from the bottom as well and that the power cable is probably hotglued in. Hopefully wiggling it will break the glue up.?.
To get the bottom screws you probably have to dissemble all the plastic casing, which is a pain in the arse.

Looks like it is screwed in from just the bottom and the sides, but it doesn't seem that hard to remove the screws from the bottom.

Thanks, that was really cool of you.
