I'm in the market for a slightly above entry-level digital camera. I've had my eye on the Canon A70 for months now, but if anybody's got any recommendations in the $400-$500CDN range I'd appreciate it.
I anticipate using it almost exclusivly for screen, no printing, but I want to keep my options open. A movie mode would be nice.
Thanks!

I went with the Kodak EasyShare DX4530 if anybody's curious. 5MP for $450 CDN, not bad. :)
The first picture I took was of my cat...

I actually did look at the suggestions, some closely. Here's the reasoning behind my decision:
First of all, the tricky thing was I had a gift card so if the camera wasn't available at the store, I wasn't going to get it. That right there eliminated the Nikon and S30. The S50 was too expensive, and I don't remember why I didn't like the Sony. I had my reasons. Anyway, for what I wanted and could afford it came back to the A70 and the Kodak. Being a beginner I liked the simplicity of the Kodak and I fealt the higher resolution would hold up better over the years. Further to that I've read good things about it.
Maybe I'll live to regret it, who knows, but for what it's worth, right now, I'm happy with it and don't see why I shouldn't be. In the future I'll no doubt have the budget and experience to justify getting something, perhaps, better.
Out of curiosity, though, what's so bad about Kodaks? I do have the option of an exchange if it turns out to be a very bad decision.

My camera isn't reviewed, but user reviews are good.

http://www.accureviews.com/camer…I did wish my buget was a bit higher, but there you go.
Seriously, though, any stories of Kodak camers eating family pets or what have you, I would like to hear them.

haha, nothing like that,
thats good choice then if you're its for a first time use, my s30 was a last year's model,
its just that digicam are quite pricy and its always better to invest in a good one.
sometimes its not the pixels taht count but the quality and features
It also depends what the use of the pictures your going to take for, ie if its for web, you dont have to go for crazy 5mpg cuz you'r downsizing them, so invest in features, but if its used for something like print, then go for it, the more the betterhappy picture taking, hope that helped and sorry if i sounded like a smart ass earlier...
