well it exists everywhere not just Canada. I've been f'ed with many times. Especially if they know you are freelancing because generally you need the money and they stick you in that situation. That really blows.

a litte off topic but - does anyone know - if youre let go - is it manditory for your employer to pay for unused vacation? or does it vary state to state ?
- Peter0
Taragee, I think in a lot of cases they will let you know which will be your last day - and ask you to take your vacation day off from work until that happens.
And if there is less vacation days until the day you'd have to go: take the rest of the days off anyways.
- Peter0
...And, if you were paid during vacations before, I assume that the same rule would apply

The use of "werx" always...
irkx me.

brundlefly they do lots of small work, mostly print. they used to run that Kronikal mag that was floating around town about a year or two ago.
its just frustrating, being relatively new to design its hard enough to get work, let alone deal with crap. Seems worse in calgary here too, everyone is a designer and everyone is outta work.

take the f*ckers to court!
- brundlefly0
I don't know too many local designers that are not busy. send me a resume.
You shouldn't have wasted so much time with these clowns, tell them they either pay or you will report them to the chamber of commerce, reporting them to the BBB is a waste of time....if they make a counter offer (ie 50%) settle it, and learn about contracts, I think I have some you can rebrand.
- idsgn0
i did manage to get them agree to pay me most of the cash by the end of the day.
brundlefly - check your email
- monNom0
the BBB is a big money grab.
call 'em up and try to file a complaint... you've gotta pay them a fee!F#@*ing better business bureau
*shakes head*
Employment Standards (government) will also likely do nothing for you if you don't have a paper trail... and it'll take you 3 months to find that out...
your best bet is to take them to small claims...
- monNom0
...and i didn't read the last post
still not a fan of the BBB though
*scowls*

haha this is a funny thread.

f*ck...sorry to hear andy...
wish i'd have known earlier...for future reference for calgary designers...stay away from anyone who had anything to do with kronical...this is pretty standard practice from what i've observed from them in the last 4 years.

if you're suffering because of this, I'm sorry in advance...but this just cracked me the fuck up. it's almost worth hearing from someone..."I thought you were working for free?" :)
