if someone asked you for a proposal for a website that needs to be done in 3 weeks, what would you charge?

that really depends on a lot of things, size for one, and whats on your plate...
try 1500

well, the way that i see it is that if they want a 3 week commitment, they should be charged for 3 weeks of my time... considering they will probably try to get as much work as they can within those 3 weeks. i think anything under $3K would be too little.
thoughts?

In Mongolia they'd charge two medium camels and bag of rice.
Revisions would cost three litres of cow's milk.In Greenland a new pair of gloves and a fishing rod will suffice.
In Australia, beer. Lots of it.
Jokes aside...figure out a completive hourly rate, ask for more details concerning content and use of technology and adjust the number of hours you think you need to complete. If necessary break down the time into manageable chunks...inital concepting, design and design revisions, html production...etc.

true enough,
may be get an idea of the size of the project, it'll probably take less than 3 weeks...so just tell them it'll take you all of 3 weeks, and just charge 'em at least 3k

completive = competitive

just tell them you're the shit and charge 150/hr

the reason i ask this is because, in my experience, a client will try to get as much work from you as possible within the scheduled time. as a freelancer, 1.5-2k per week is fair in my opinion, which means a 3 week job should deserve 4.5 - 6k.

specs? that would make all the difference. my hourly rate depends on type of work. i dont charge as much to do flash banners as i do to design a site.. front end programming is more than back end programming. it ranges between 30-70 an hour depending on how much of a pain in the ass it is. ya dig?
you shouldnt ask what someone would charge unless you detail what it is youre charging for. 3k for a super site is not enough. you could get away with anywhere between 4k-20k depending on what kind of site it is. thats a big window.
good luck.
