i think we are getting mixed up between tagging and actual grafitti murals/pieces.

oldies as in lowrider, gangster, "cholo" kinda music. Most people don't know what a cholo is so let me define. You can usually spot out a cholo because they are bald, wearing a white shirt, beige dickies sporting the cortes nikes..and added tattoos usually apply! Now those are mostly the gangster that tag their gang.
Now the tagger that is just part of a crew usually looks like this:
sagged jean shorts, they have an edge up (a haircut where you edge the fron of your head) big shirt, wearing a dodger or any baseball hat which the bill is flat..and sporting a backpackhehe

id love to see a wall tagged with:
'urban art coming soon'
with an email link
lol

i'd rather see a wall full of nice tags than a wall full of advertising!!
- enobrev0
so, that means if i want to start writing on shit again, i have to dress the part?
- agentfour0
yeh eno. You need Fubu or you aint a tru writer! weeerd!
- BonSeff0
do the 'urban art coming soon' eno! that would be so great! but pretend like you are a 'tagging firm'
:P

and good point regarding the seperationg of graff and hip hop... although it was promoted strongly early on by the broke kinds of the early hip hop communities, which is where a lot of the link comes from.
and there's not that much of a mix up. A good amount of the lettering in graff murals is based on tags. Some of the effects stem from the streaks made by writing with a fat marker. Then the progression made it look less and less like the imitation of tags.

fo sho agent fo.
hehe. .tagging firm... sheeeit - we used to be straight shirt and tie.. dressed to impress. I didn't even dress that nice for work.

so sexypixel you use a graffiti font and paint drips and splatters but you want to differentiate between ugly tags and beautiful "graffiti?"
it's fine to have an opinion. i agree with eno, a full wall of tags is awesome to me. even a full bathroom stall wall or desktop back in high school was more visually appealing to me than if it was clean.
how can you call something ugly, and then adapt it into your work to sell it?

momentum I think you're mixing tagging in general to a scene which is obviously very localised to you ie; mexican/latino, I'm guessing your in LA / SoCal.
I dont think you can say taggers look like this or that, a lot of writers are generally quite nerdy and often go out writing alone in the early hours.
Doing tags for posters could be considered 'selling out' or 'buying in' but so long as it wasn't for a really sad cause I'd rather see tagging represented properly rather than some muppet who doesn't write try and tag and use a god-awful tag font.
Blackspade if you still need help coming up with a tag (I guess you've got some good results already) let me know but I'm not going to do something without an arrangement.. tagging for posters is different than tagging quickly ona wall, its context means iuts integrity is scrutinised much closer and so it takes quite a bit of time to construct a really nice looking 'tag' especially on such a long and ugly word. Dont piss people off by saying its 'just one word, how long can it take?'.
- sexypixel0
muppet, sell-out, i dunno, i just created a logo for a group that teaches kids about their impact on their surrounding environement.
wasnt trying to offend a whole culture.and i had 1/2 a day to do it. so shoot me.
I also think theres a difference between putting it on a website using a decent color pallet and writting it on someone elses property in black marker.
- rasko40
hey tony, the font used for the copyline there, is that Helv condensed rounded ot something? can I have it????
- blackspade0
rasko
