okay then...
What I don't like about the show is this: Why gay men as the teachers?
I have nothing against anyone's sexuality, I have a few gay friends and get along with them great.
But isn't it interesting to think how it's easy to assume the show would be a failure if it were straight men making over a straight man's wardrobe, home, kitchen skills, etc.
A subject that really has nothing to do with sexuality comes down to being a failure of a show BECAUSE of sexuality.
Interesting perspective, isn't it?Viewers get to watch the show, laugh at the Fab 5's gayness and be entertained by them from the confines of their living room couch, all safe and secure in their straight world. At the same time, they get to cheer for the Fab 5 and their mostly positive makovers of men who needed them and whose lives are vastly improved (in our eyes), physically and mentally, and we get to see their friends and significant other be really impressed and fawning over the new look and skills.
Looks and skills that could ALL be taught by straight men. Looks and skills that ALL men, gay or straight should be comfortable with.
But, like I said, it would probably be a boring, unwatched show if it weren't for the Fab 5 and all that they are...

they have the man show for straight guys. laaaaame
i guess because they are gay there is more opportunity for jokes, it's not supposed to be the be all end all
just one show.

and what does the man show depict for the most part?
beer guts, objectification of women, and sports.
I think it's the Maxim reading crowd that fears the things shown on Queer Eye.

mg33, it seems to me like you're looking at this from the dark side...do you think its possible that this show might be in a very small way breaking down some homophobic barriers that exist?
It immediately struck me that these straight guys came to rely, develop a repoire with these guys.
It's light hearted, in the same way that Will & Grace is, and I think it helps open minds more than reinforce stereotypes.

oh, indeed monkeyshine. I kind of didn't see it from that angle to be honest with you.
I do like how they develop that repoire. The show with the guy getting rid of the hairpiece-the 5 were so proud of him, and he was equally grateful to have been given the confidence from them.
I thought that was great. It was heartfelt and very sincere. But on the other hand...
I think it's interesting to think of the show with straight men for the simple reason that they have the same exact ability to do all the things that gay men do (in the context of the show). While I doubt there are many people watching the show who are totally oblivious to modern society and acceptance of homosexuality, I can't help but think that someone out there looks at the show and thinks, "Well, it's all gay men teaching straight men this stuff, so is it only gay men that know this stuff?"
Couldn't you see someone thinking that?

BORING

right mal?
- Mal0
Yes sweetheart.

we are not beating a dead horse, just having fun.
I think we need to remember one thing. This is entertainment and fun. The same way as a Star Wars was/is. And whom is to say this is not all set up with actors? Take it too serious and look very stupid. :)
- BonSeff0
if that's entertainment, can i pull the trigger?
