The idea that television shows cause side effects on society is nothing new.
Many popular shows have had a major impact on our society. Some are obvious such as people becoming dry cleaners in order to be like George & Weezie, while others have caused unexpected side effects.
When cousin Oliver first appeared on "The Brady Bunch," legions of conservative Christians predicted the world would end because the Antichrist had been spotted. Only later after seeing Horshack from "Welcome Back, Kotter" did they realize Oliver was merely a lesser demon.
"Blossom" caused an increase in calls to suicide hot lines, especially after episodes that featured her singing.
"TJ Hooker" increased prostitution & hurt sales of toupees.
"Roseanne" caused sales of condoms, Slimfast and beer to skyrocket.
"M*A*S*H" caused in increase in whiny sissy men.
The TV version of "Lost in Space" caused pedophiles to join the space program (Danger, Will Robinson!).
"The Golden Girls" created a shortage of gray wigs due to cross-dressing men who wanted to be Bea Arthur.
"Star Trek" continues to create legions of nerds.
"Magnum PI" also created a shortage of gray wigs due to cross-dressing men who wanted to be Bea Arthur.
Meanwhile, joking, yeah right! ;)

wait wait wait...are you, mg33, saying that the show is bad because it might make some rural person think you are gay?
If you're secure in your sexuality then why care?

bottomline and I agree with the first post from jevad, the show just cracks my ass up, especially when they do the Beavis and Butthead type commentaries on when the guy gets ready at the end. I just roll on the floor. :o

it's just another way to make people feel bad about themselves and inadequate through fashion and beauty. when did that become cool in any state? i realise that the people on the show have consented to be there, so of course they're thrilled at the end. but it's just another case of media telling that people won't like you unless you dress a certain way, etc. just cause it comes from 5 giddy gays doesn't change the message: use this, wear that or you'll be a loser. and the soundtrack sucks, too. they play shitty house beats the entire time. not one moment of quiet.

repeat after me: 'Cleaner Living'. I don't care if you live in the moon. Not only do they improve the overall appearance of the straight guys, they clean and contemporarily design the hell out of their living area and in some cases set them straight with a routine that is healthier. Such as eating and workout habits.

it's just cheap entertainment at the expense of others. not unlike jerry springer, jenny jones, etc. where they also tend to do alot of make-overs. if that's what you're into, go for it.

yep

i don't really see how it is at the expense of others.
they go in make the person feel better, look better, live in a cleaner house. they don't try to make the person someone they're not, if you notice the fashion usually suits that person's personality. if the people are happy at the end (in a healthy way), i don't see anything wrong with that.
- clownpuncher0
i think you're missing my point, but to respond: suit the personality of the person? how often can you tell someone's personality from a few hours? but that's the kind of people who like this crap. bland, fashion clones with no personality. you can't give style to someone, just fashion, which is hollow and temporary. and don't act like the gays have good intentions, their attitudes towards the subject are completely patronizing.

I'm with you TaraTara. Have fun in Costa Rica! :)
- Tara0
thanks JazX! I will
clownpuncher-
i love the show, i don't have bland fashion taste. but yes carson can be patronizing and on the obnoxious side but he still makes me laugh hysterically.most of the time the people feel comfortable in the clothes that they put them in and they are glowing by the end of the show. i don't see how you can argue with happiness
obviously the show isn't going to be appreciated by everyone but it's still 1000x better than those evil joe millionare and average joe shows

yeah it's really only Carson that makes it a bit on the obnoxious side and a lot of generalizations come into play, BUT, then again, they could be doing that for laughs and viewers. etc, etc.

monkeyshine, I just wrote a huge response and I guess it was so long my login eventually timed out...lost it all...
going to get sick I think...so I'm spitting blood from the interior of my mouth into a napkin and folding it like a butterfly's wings.
- monkeyshine0
uh oh...not sure whether to be concerned for your blood loss or grateful that I am saved from a novella of a lashing. ;)
- unknown0
no worries, it wasn't a lashing :)
don't even know if I want to try and explain it again...
