are we taking over?
discuss, and expand.

I can't speak for Australia, but as for Canada, I'd have to say, "hardly."
I don't even know of a design programme in Canada that is comparable to ones in the US.
I think we're growing, no doubt, but we've still got a long way to go, even to just establish our own identity (if that's even possible).

I guess, Emily Carr, ACAD, and Concordia all have their strengths though.
and I think 50% of the ILM designers are right out of ryerson
- ankixa0
ILM and Disney used to harvest heavily from a bunch ov the ontario art schools.
lost a lot ov people to the states from canada.
as for taking over?
what are we taking?
and when ix it over?

You forgot Sheridan College, which has awesome 3d and animation programmes.
I thought you were focusing on design though.

I doubt whether institutional clout has much to do with "the take-over"...
Most schools earn their name though marketing rather than high quality graduates anyways.
Take VFS for example:
Great Marketing... a handful of notable graduates.

all i know is, all aussies/kiwis have chips on their shoulders.
- agentfour0
my shoulder is fine thanks. I think the majority of australians do not have chips on their shoulders.
I think there are a lot of australian designers and artists doing awesome things at the moment. I dont see a heap of european design so i cannot really criticise but i do love some european stuff.
but aussies definately rock!

aussies are doing unreal stuffs but when it's not like there's ever going to be a take over - look at the population size! 20 million people as opposed to Americas 15 hunderd bazillion etcetera - it' just unfathomable.
Besides. I'm far too lazy. I'd rather go on the rope swing and jump into the river or float through the tunnel of death than establish australian design anywhere - then again, I don't design - so that rules me out of the equation anyway. Makes you wonder what I'm doing in this thread doesn't it.

Canadians have something weird about them. You know how when you tell an off beat joke to someone and they just dont get it? Take that feeling or vibe and thats like every conversation with a Canadian. They just arent cool. Thyre sort of like Euro slow. Or American lite.
Austrailians are quick ones. They are generally pretty cool. They arent like the Brits that think thyre the shit right off the bat. Austrailians are fun people. Sort of like classy hippies. Know how to live life and are proper.
Just a general thought... but its true.

all i can say about you english speaking ppl is this:
as i was first time in london i had the luck to sit on a table witrh some guys from scotland, australia, england, canada and the states.
i hardly understood the scot, the english guy was a l'il easier, australian was more like singing and the canadian and us english sounded quite the same to me.
the only thing was, the american had the loudest voice on the table. and he was drunk pretty fast ; )

Totally want to give Steak an intelligence quiz.
We get your jokes, we just don't think they are funny. ;P

"Austrailians are quick ones. They are generally pretty cool. They arent like the Brits that think thyre the shit right off the bat."
Have you ever met an american?
- steak&liquor0
Shit... my SAT score was 1300.
You need to learn how to read. I ddint say canadians dont get our/my jokes. I was saying that canadians are about as much fun to talk to as a rock.
- steak&liquor0
Yep, live amongst them. Mexicans, philipinos, costa ricans, japanese, koreans, etc... i live amongst them all in my neighborhood. All are terrific with conversation. It sjust them Canadians. They are dull. What a bore they are.

tom green is canadian!
Daddy Would You Like Some Sausage? Daddy Would You Like Some Sausage? Daddy Would You Like Some Sausage? Daddy Would You Like Some Sausage?

some serious talent in aus and new zealand, just look at the effects in LOTR and the matrix.
And the whole 'aussies dont work as hard as the rest of the world' is not so true any more. Its becoming alot like america, more influenced from the states than from the uk, well sydney anyway.
canadians are good fun but they try too hard to not be american. ever see a canadian backpacker without a canadian flag on his backpack?
- unknown0
hey so what about mexican canadians, or asian canadians, etc ? :D
- brundlefly0
take a tour of any middle eastern country with an american flag on your back, and the maple leaf is looking pretty sweet.
- sexypixel0
why wear a flag at all? just blend in
- vespa0
That's such a myth about aussies not working hard. Aussies are just so good it LOOKS like we aren't working hard ;)
