So true vespa.
Its only cos I'm wanting to move I need to do my portfolio. I was really surprised when it all started to come together.....

everyone is the same that way, I'm always surprised when I update my stuff and realise I've actually done some good work, it's too easy to focus on the everyday crap!

Well, to tell you the truth vespa, its only recently I've been compiling all my work, and I'm really happy with it. Probably about 60% of it is utter wank, and would never show anyone, but the rest I'm really pleased with. Its just I go through long patches where i think I'm only designing shit, and I always forget about the odd nice job I did....my website will also be online very soon.

do something else then fella if the flame's gone out.

It does get better, but you really have to stick with it. There'll be a lot of times when you'll get really pissed off and just feel like a monkey following the clients deands. It'll improve, you've only just started your career....

it's not that bad is it save hon? When was the last time you compiled all your work? I bet you've done more good stuff than you'd think.

I know, its shitty. College does lead to bizarre expectations.
Im not looking for a creative directors job or anything. I feel kinda like a mac operator and not a designer.

The crap thing about being a student is the tutors don't really teach you about the industry and what to expect....

Cheers people. Do you really think I can become asistant manager so soon?
Ta for the compliment Mirola!
Don't want to sound like a whining student or anything with this thread, I know you gotta start small and work your way up. Just feeling like Im not producing anything at all. 3 months in my job and I actually have nothing to put into my portfolio.

Yes, the more expirence you have, the more confident you come across, the more people will listen to you, when you've got a good body of work you can turn around and say, "I know what i'm talking about, and here's the proof".
It'll take at least 3 years i reckon.

Just watch better TV and you'll be fine.

i find that the more you dislike what you do in your professional life the more you feel thrown into doing something more enjoyable and creative like building your own projects and ideas.
or just getting more fucked at the weekend. one or the other, or both.
