problem it gets better, but your expectations groe much more exponentially.
ive been a designer for 5 years, and im more disapointed than when I started, even with good money and great clients.
imagine design as a pyrimid, the higher you rise the less jobs there are for you to swap into.
my advice. Make sure your in a dicipline you love. There isnt a day I dont regret spending more time on motion graphics.

It's gotta being sausage duty save.
I turned up to a nursing lecture on my first day of uni and didn't realise for about an hour (it was being held outside, I was a long way from the front and couldn't hear a thing!)
I'm constantly surprised I managed to find my way to the UK from Aus!

That was meant to say "It's gotta beat sausage duty"

HA!!!!
sausage duty save, I'll like that one...vespa, are you from Australia then!?!?
- vespa0
that's very good advice kk, when I was studying I really wanted to do cinematography but the dept of my uni that offered it only let media students in and I was a lowly photography/design student.
I so wish I'd fought for it a bit harder!

feels like that alot lately..
hopefully someday I'll be designing sites for movies and bands where creativity is appreciated.. Corporate design is no fun

indeed I am. along with half the pissheads in london it would seem.

the only advice that no one gave me was that once you start down a path, the further you go down it, it is harder to change from that path.
start with something you think you will still enjoy in 5-7 years.

welcome to the shitty world of graphic design.....!
- stewart0
no, sorry.
- vespa0
and then what do you do after 5-7 years kk?
- jk_b0
All the time - I dont think it gets better, you just get used to it. Unless of course you belong to the 5% of people in the business that get to do exciting stuff all the time (but doesnt that get trivial after awhile too?)

I thought Australia had some sort of space distance tunnel or something where Australians unwitting go in and turn up in Fulham broadway!
- ian0
Yeah, I was afraid of that.
Ah well, at least the money will get better? Or am I deluding myself completely?
- save0
the money does get better..

suck it up kiddo - we've all been through it and some of us are still there.
Of course it gets better.

Yup I love motion graphics, always enojed multimedia class in college. Im doing mostly print at the mo.
Got a call from my client, he wants his site up pronto after talking to a programmer last week. Now Im gonna do it tomorrow after work. They are the best clients, never haggle over money, always pay when I ask and they need everything redesigned.
I wanna do more work like this in work.

Sweet. Ta for the pic Rasko, thats exactly how I feel.

i find that the more you dislike what you do in your professional life the more you feel thrown into doing something more enjoyable and creative like building your own projects and ideas.
or just getting more fucked at the weekend. one or the other, or both.
