Righty dokey, Im a graduate and Im working and doing some freelance stuff on the side and working in a shop at the weekends.
Had a shitty day yesterday and its turning out the same today. I feel like a monkey with someone telling me to dance. Went home last night to do some designs for myself cos I dont like what Im doing in work and I just couldn't do anything. Ended up watching shit TV.
People, starting to lose it and nothing seems to work. Anyone else ever feel like this?
welcome to the shitty world of graphic design.....!
All the time - I dont think it gets better, you just get used to it. Unless of course you belong to the 5% of people in the business that get to do exciting stuff all the time (but doesnt that get trivial after awhile too?)
Yeah, I was afraid of that.
Ah well, at least the money will get better? Or am I deluding myself completely?
the money does get better..
suck it up kiddo - we've all been through it and some of us are still there.
Of course it gets better.
Sweet. Ta for the pic Rasko, thats exactly how I feel.
i find that the more you dislike what you do in your professional life the more you feel thrown into doing something more enjoyable and creative like building your own projects and ideas.
or just getting more fucked at the weekend. one or the other, or both.
Just watch better TV and you'll be fine.
Yes, the more expirence you have, the more confident you come across, the more people will listen to you, when you've got a good body of work you can turn around and say, "I know what i'm talking about, and here's the proof".
It'll take at least 3 years i reckon.
or less, judging by your site ;-)
the money does get better, much, much better, in fact..you stick in son..you'll soon be assistant manager of that shop you work in at the weekend! shop manager....just think...you can even wear a tie..name badge, three pens.. have the run of the little nubile shelf stackers, get a lock on the store cupboard door, you can crack one off whenever you want ....good man!
i own three shops!
You cheeky monkey Mirola!
I'm a CD so I can do what I like!
Cheers people. Do you really think I can become asistant manager so soon?
Ta for the compliment Mirola!
Don't want to sound like a whining student or anything with this thread, I know you gotta start small and work your way up. Just feeling like Im not producing anything at all. 3 months in my job and I actually have nothing to put into my portfolio.
try working 3yrs and having nothing to show......
harsh. Feeling slightly better now and yet, slightly worried too...
The crap thing about being a student is the tutors don't really teach you about the industry and what to expect....
I know, its shitty. College does lead to bizarre expectations.
Im not looking for a creative directors job or anything. I feel kinda like a mac operator and not a designer.
it gets better
