hey guys, i'm still looking for a full time design job.
I'm wondering how did you find yours?
I tried looking thru a list of AIGA members in my area but their site is fucked....
I tried monster and some local sites...but nada. These people dont even respond back.
any tips?
I think my biggest problem is that i'm not willing to move...I want to stay down here in south fla.
But I think i'm good enough to get a job regardless.
Ideas? suggestions? tips?

• sent out tons of emails/letters etc...had a few interviews but there was nothing going.
• Had an interview with a freelancer starting her own company, she loved my work, but she only had a part time vacancy
• So she gave me a contact at a design consultancy. Had an interview, got a job and three years later I'm still here....
Get a website up and running and email hundreds of companies your url, and then maybe call your favourite ones a few days later. Emails are far more convient than letters.....
good luck

portfolio portfolio portfolio...
it's not that hard to get a job, you just have to show people what you can do.

old classmate of mine helped me out.
i keep in touch with my old professors and they let me know where everyone is and if anyone is looking. they are better than any agency.

Don't just send your resume on a piece of paper if you know other people are applying for the same job. There are other designers who can most likely do exactly what you can. I designed a little portfolio booklet and mailed it to companies. That way, when the creative directors are sorting through resumes, your booklet (or whatever piece you create) will definately stand out the most. Of course, a creative presentation won't make up for bad design. If you aren't a good designer then you gotta find employment from someone who doesn't know good design from bad design, or take a crappy salary. I prefer creative companies who do/know good design...

send resumes to places that you wouldn't think of in the first place...
manufacturers of power supplies or electronic components, rivets, etc (many have in house advertisement dept for web and print) I worked in one for 2 years for my first job.
Factories and manufacturers place a lot of ads, and update their websites pretty often, not to mention brochures etc.
and so on...- go for the places that don't necessarily have strong brand identity. Just find their number on the yellowpages, call asking permission to send a fax, don't even ask if they are hiring. Send a fax of your resume and coverletter addressed to Marketing/Sales dept.
And never stop trying with the employment agencies. They get hundreds of inquiries, but someone is going to see a quality in you that stands out and send you to jobs. that's how I got the job I have for the last 2 years.
Good luck, and never give up.

I once heard of a dude that was desparate and glued his resume to a tall bottle of planters and said he'd work for peanuts.

thanks guys. Yeah its been tough.
been looking for about 6-7 weeks now....3 interviews 1 potential job...i'm supposed to meet with them again next week.
I'm going to finish my minibook and get some printed out.
I'll post the design as soon as I'm done with it....its gonna look DOPE.
now, that leads me to another question.
my school is having a portfolio review. its in NYC....i dont want to leave south fla to work.
should I still go?
Its going to cost me a hotel room for 2 days and the ticket....not to mention printing all these minibooks.
worth it or not?
