Dig bands like Zao, Training for Utopia or Living Sacrifice? Never been fond of having my rock mixed with Jesus, but the 3 abovementioned were killer.

Amen to the guys talkin about Pedro, POD, Roadside, MxPx, etc. Along with bands like Project 86 and Stavesacre they know how to walk the walk but still rock. True there are DEFINITELY a lot of posers and cheeseball fundamentalist Christian rockers, but there is good stuff too. Just like saying one Christian is like all the rest, can't place all your hopes and dreams of Christian rock on a band like Stryper.
Side note - Further Seems Forever DID spawn Dashboard Confessional.

Actually, there is tremendous growth in the popluarity of bands with Christians in them, that are targeting the mainstream audience. I believe many people are growing weary of the message of hopelessness that many of the popular bands seem to convey. In contrast, there are a few excellent bands that are gaining popularity because they make great music and bring an "alternative" message to the pale of mainstream "rock". Here are few that you should check out, if you haven't yet:

Starflyer 59, Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Eisley (if Coldplay were chicks), Velour 100, Morella's Forest, Jeremy Enigk, Death Cab for Cutie...
The best Christian rock are musicians that are Christians not Christians that are musicians.

Since "Christian" rock has a much smaller pile of money to divide, their industry is much too reluctant to try anything new. They would never invest in anything that hasn't already been proven to succeed.
That's why most Christian music seems to sound like the generic equivalent of something better. If Christians believe that God is the Creator of the universe, they should not be so quick to rip everyone off.
Rock n' Roll is born out of angst, rebellion and debauchery. Christian rock is like a pacifier in the mouths of babies who just want to smash guitars.

Here in Nashville, Christian music is the only genre making any money and its a HUGE industry.
Christian rock as well as Christian rap, punk, etc are pulling in alot of $$. There are even video shows that follow the format of TLC or whatever that MTV show is. One of the biggest Christian labels here is http://www.sparrowrecords.com
Oh yeah, and I've discovered that lots of Christian folk here in the music industry love their coke (as in not cola). Go figure.

im not a religious person at all, but there is good christian music and bad. the stuff that they show on the god channel showing some dude wearing a jersey, baggy pants, and a beanie trying to rap about how halloween is evil....that stuff is f*cking retarded. but i can jam to some Zao or POD, as long as they aren't trying to force a bible up my ass.

I don't see it. If it's such a big industry, why are their no CCM albums in the Billboard top 50(Evenesence doesn't count)?
http://www.billboard.com/bb/char…
I would be suprised if CCM accounted for even 10% of any major label's (not Sparrow, but it's parent company EMI) sales.
It may seem bigger in Nashville, cause it's one of only 2 things going on in town.
Christian punk, rap, etc are probably only selling to church kids who's parents won't let them listen to the real stuff -- A market that CCM doesn't have to work too hard to keep. If they were concerned more about making good music than they are about not pissing those parents off, they could show that the industry is not just a musical Xerox machine.
